Working on a project of getting the current populations of roughly the "inner city" or prewar municipality - that is the area of Ontario municipalities before the many annexations of the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s (and beyond).

Many municipalities saw a postwar expansion of boundaries: Ottawa, Hamilton, London, Kitchener, St. Catharines, Kingston, Guelph, Peterborough, etc.

It is easier to do CMAs where one can pretty easily use census tracts, but I can get dissemination area level data for smaller municipalities as well.

If people have information on the rough pre-war boundaries, feel free to share them.

Going quite a bit later than 1950, does anyone know where Barrie's southern boundary was prior to the big annexation of 1982?

I think it might have gone as far as Big Bay Point or even Mapleview, already--that is, taking in the Molson's plant industrial zone. Methinks the 1982 annexation to the south was more lateral (i.e. swallowing up all of Holly and Painswick) than downward...
