I'm currently considering a unit in a Monarch-built building on Doris ave. near North York City Centre. Although the condo is of traditional "early 2000's inner suburb" design, they've actually put some 2-story loft-like units (1 bedroom) at the ends of the building. The "main floor" has the kitchen, a powder room, and a fairly long living/dining room. At the end is the balcony, with a tall 12+ foot window on top. There's a stairs to the mezzanine (second floor) which is essentially the bedroom, along with a walk-in closet, bathroom, and washer/dryer alcove. I only have experience with lofts in Etobicoke, which I thought were just OK. This one seems a bit better, plus there doesn't appear to be very many lofts in NYCC.
