I was navigating the new Emporis website over my lunch and came across these interesting stats: http://www.emporis.com/statistics/most-expensive-buildings-northamerica

According to this, the new Hilton in Niagara is the third most expensive building in North America. Does anybody know why this is? To put it into more perspective the new Trump building in Toronto was about a quarter of the cost.

Go to be a misprint or Emporis doesn't fact check. I don't think that hotel costs 1 billion dollars to construct. The Bow in Calgary is listed as 850 million, but per Wikipedia, the Bow costs 1.4 billion. Take with a grain of salt though...

Yes I thought surely it was a misprint until I noticed that quite a few listed are casinos, which got me wondering whether there is something particularly glamorous about this hotel. I googled an article that has the construction cost as two hundred million, which seems a bit more accurate... unless they later decided to line the bathtubs with gold.

Can't be right! Wynn Las Vegas construction cost was $2.7 billion, most Vegas hotels the built within the 10 years had construction costs well over 900 million. Hilton Niagara falls is pretty tiny compared to these mammoth Vegas hotels
