Metro - 1077 N Service Rd, Mississauga. DEMOLISHED?

I love, love, love this Metro. It's near Dixie Mall & the QEW. Everytime I whiz by on the QEW I think to myself, dang, there's a sweet 60s masterpiece.

Today, I was told it's being torn down.

Can anyone veryify? Any other admirers of this building?

I saw it closed on my way home from Hamilton late last week with construction/demolition hoarding around it. I was a fan of this store, but I bet it's too small and/or out of the way for Metro.

That's a shame, it's such a landmark and there are fewer and fewer of that style left.

It was always a landmark for me on the drive to Toronto. It should have gotten heritage status for its distinctive facade, like the Metro at Parkway Plaza.

Given that Mississauga is sorta-conscientious t/w its Modern heritage (cf. the Canadian Tire station on Southdown), I'd be surprise if there *wasn't* concern offered here. (And IIRC it's actually 50s, not 60s.)

I drove past it a few days ago and it was completely gone. Just a pile of debris.

Wow. I have memories of that as a Miracle Food Mart in the early '70s. The Shoppers at the other end of the plaza was a Dominion. Looks like a Longo's is taking its place.
