Sick bastard...

This doesn't really fit under the graffiti thread. The little pr*ck who did this needs help.

Firefighters' memorial vandalized

May 13, 2008 11:50 AM

Staff Reporter

A memorial for Ontario firefighters killed in the line of duty was defaced with black paint and red spray paint Monday night.

It took the vandal just minutes to throw black paint on the face of one of five stones that make up the Queen's Park memorial, while spray painting phrases on the four other sections. The phrases include "Liberal lackeys," "Dalton gang," "guns bad" and "firemen 4 McGinty."

The memorial bears the names of 344 firefighters killed in the line of duty in Ontario.

The Ontario Provincial Police, who cover security at Queen's Park, are investigating. It's believed the memorial was defaced just before 9 p.m. by a lone male.

The memorial was built in 2005 by the Ontario Professional Fire Fighters Association, with a $500,000 grant from the province. The association was "incredibly disappointed and very disturbed" by the comments, said president Fred LeBlanc.

"I just can't put it into words how our families will feel," he said, adding that the political nature of the vandalism makes it more disturbing.

"It's probably the lowest form of protest that I could contemplate."

Toronto Fire chief William Stewart echoed the strong reaction to the vandalism.

"The defacing of the Provincial Firefighter Memorial is a despicable act and a disgrace to the memory of firefighters across Ontario," he said in a news release.

The memorial sits at the corner of University Ave. and College St.

Any witnesses are asked to call the OPP at 416-327-2367 or Crime Stoppers at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

Firefighters Memorial vandalism...a shame!

DT Geek: I agree with you-this is a low form of vandalism. Even graffiti taggers in their right minds would not do this. There is a political statement behind it as mentioned-can you post a pic if it is available? If that person is caught he should be forced to clean the memorial himself! LI MIKE

Agreed. Lick it clean using paint thinners and his tongue.

CTV & CityTV have mobile broadcast units there so I presume they will be covering this on the evening news.

Come on the tagger who did this getting free press..his sick signature is on the front page. The only good taggers are the ones that is caught and force to clean the "canvas"...I still cant believe they call this "art"....damn left wing and their agendas.

I don't think you can include this into the ongoing debate in the graffiti thread.

graffiti...the memorial is a subtle but very honorable monument to the firefighters.Yes I meant left wing city hall..ever since the left wing political correct won the last two elections the city over all image has degraded and the lack of will to crack down on these taggers is ruining Toronto once "run like the swiss" image.Yes I think these taggers are a disgrace to Toronto and those call these vandals artist really stretching it.So the city is now cracking down on owners of the property that been tag (TTC,Hydro,etc,etc)...city hall and its lemmings..

I could think of any number of people who'd think the memorial is mawkish kitsch. Though (hopefully) not to the extent that they'd approve of its graffiti'ng...

the firefighters union approved this monument so in their eyes its perfect for them.Thats all that matters.Critics be damned.

Vandalism Repaired

I would just like to inform you that the cost of the clean up for this terrible act was $0.00. I work for Goodbye Graffiti in Toronto and was involved in the clean up. When we heard what happened we offered our services free of charge to safely remove the graffiti with no damage to the monument.
