I was walking through BCE Place Galleria at noon today and these nice people forced me - I tried to say no, honest - to have a free lunch at their excellent new Japanese restaurant called ki.

Marche it ain't!

They're having practice runs this week, so I assume they'll be looking for more diners tomorrow. They open for real on Friday.

Not the whole menu during the dry run.

The place seats about 300. High ceilings, fairly slick design by some Vancouver firm, staff everywhere.

I was seated at the bar with the Japanese chefs staring at me. I had a chat to one.

( ooops. Fire drill ) ...

Course 1 choices:
Miso Soup or Sunomono Salad with Crab*.

Course 2 choices:
Kushiyaki + Tempura:
Atlantic Salmon Fillets* or Vegetable tempura or Chicken and Leeks with Kimchee.

Course 3 choices:
Bento Box and Burger
Hamburger or Bento Black Cod and Sashimi* or salmon Teriyaki Platter

Course 4 choices:
Nigri, Sashimi + Makimonos
Nori-wrapped and seared Yellowfin Tuna* or Binnaga Albacore Tuna or Uni or California Roll

Dessert:
Creme Brulee*.

* My choices. The Salmon was especially good. And you get three small creme brulee bowls with three different yummy versions.

Service was a bit slow but it was a dry run after all. They brought me a second Salmon course instead of the Bento so I sent it back. And the menu was more courses than you'd usually have at lunch.
