Is there an issue you notice in your daily life in Toronto that bothers you, that you want fixed? If so, please post it in this thread.

I am currently doing a school project on local issues regarding: community conservation (environment, etc), indigenous issues, human trafficking (prostitution, etc), and technology in the 21st century.

My project will be presented to many teachers as well as members of the community and directors of social-change companies and if it's good, there's a chance that major action will be taken to resolve the issue that I present.

I love biology and chemistry and I'd love to research an issue (that's related to technology in the 21st century) like biotechnology in medicine or air contamination by chemicals; the list goes on.

If the prospect of social change interests you, please post an issue you want resolved here. If you can, please keep the issue small enough so that it can be acted upon by a student and 1 or 2 companies (e.g. nothing regarding our dependence on oil and issues of that magnitude).

Thanks

I'd love it if something could be done about the political apathy in Toronto. Maybe some sort of compound that makes people angry, excited or sad- maybe you could do that? :D

Some of the major social issues facing the city of Toronto are poverty and homelessness, both of which are much in part imported from outside the city. Look at the poverty in much of Toronto and you'll see immigration, look at any homeless shelter and you'll see people from all over the province, GTA and country that have moved to the service-rich areas of downtown Toronto. Thus the solution to these two social problems starts with the upper levels of government recognizing Toronto as a magnet for poor immigrants and those at risk of being homeless and providing funding accordingly.

More geared to income rental housing (TCHC, Co-operatives etc.) and programs to deal with the growing problem of drugs, namely crack and meth. These are the two most pressing social issues that need fixing in Toronto that come to mind.
