It's only a 1% difference. Contrary to what Mr. Harper may think, chopping 1% off the price of something doesn't tend to send consumers into a shopping tizzy.

Plus, isn't there a big difference in commercial property tax rates from municipality to municipality? I don't see many stores passing on the savings to their customers.

And what made you think it was to send consumers into a shopping tizzy. It was an election promise made, and an election promise kept. Just wish they had the room to move it down around 3% more - figure if they were able to do that - it would become time to eliminate the tax altogether (oops - sorry that would be a Liberal election promise around 15 years ago) - that would take care of the problem that the tax became "less efficient" (tax revenue to admin costs). That would leave the sales taxes back in the domain of the provincial governments
