As one of the co-organizers, I invite everyone in the Urban Toronto Forum to an event called "Citizens' Rights & Urban Renewal: Balancing Competing Visions of a Better City", presented by the Toronto Lansdowne Residents'
Association (TLRA). It's Tuesday, November 13th from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
at Lula Lounge, 1585 Dundas St. West (between Dufferin and Brock).

This forum features three leading urban thinkers speaking about how
ordinary citizens can have their voices heard by City planners and
politicians, instead of having change imposed on them. Guest speakers
include:

• Frank de Jong, leader of the Green Party of Ontario and candidate
for Davenport in the recent provincial election.
• Margaret Zeidler, past winner of the Jane Jacobs award and
president/creator of Urbanspace Property Group.
• David Berlin, Toronto writer, philosophy professor and founding
editor of The Walrus Magazine.

Why are some residents successful in changing the agenda, while others
are ignored? In the wake of extremely unpopular City plans to turn the
Matador into a parking lot, close Queensway onramps in Swansea and
narrow Lansdowne between College and Bloor, this is the perfect time
for citizens and groups to share strategies about how we can all help
shape the planning agenda and ensure that urban change leads to
sustainable communities and a better Toronto.

In addition to the speakers, noted Toronto singer/songwriter Laura
Repo will perform songs about the city, and filmmaker Elizabeth
Littlejohn will show an excerpt from her upcoming documentary.

Tickets for this TLRA fundraiser are $10 each at the door, or pay what
you can.

Doors open at the Lula Lounge for dinner at 6 p.m. Dinner reservations
are available by calling 416-588-0307.

Hope to see you all there.
