Presuming you understand that Cineforum is in Reg Hartt's cramped living room and that you know a bit about Reg Hart (he's a little eccentric - but in a good way), very opinionated and a bit of a charactor) you can make an informed decision as to whether to attend one of his screenings. It's an anything goes type atmosphere and Hartt loves to talk; some of his film sermons are legendary. I haven't been in some years but I've had some great experiences there with friends as I don't go alone because there's something about Cineforum that feels a little off, but it's probably just me. It's a blast to take an uninitiated friend there and share the experience afterward (Cineforum & Hartt are an experience).
Hartt is an unsung Toronto legend as is his personal collection of films and shorts. If your OK with the above take a friend and enjoy an evening there with one of his programs that interests you, he really deserves all the support he can get. Hartt will engage you with his introductions on the material which he is really passionate about (and incredibly knowledgeable) and you'll soon come to appreciate what he does there and why. I think everyone who has an interest in film should visit Cineforum at least once and experience an evening which is unlike any film adventure you'll get elsewhere. To meet the great Reg Hartt is also a privilege IMO,. As you can tell, I'm a fan.
Somehow this came up in the Carlton Cinema is Closing thread and thinking about Cineforum again makes me realize it's been too long. It's time to find a program and get my butt over there. With a friend of course
