which cafe gets your vote as 'best' in the city. consider quality of beverages, any food, and perhaps most importantly, atmosphere.

you can include a starbuck or second cup or any chain, if that is what you think is the best.

my vote would go to either the timothy's at the carrot common on the danforth, or balzac's in the distillery district.

I like Balzac's too. For those in the west-end, they will soon be opening a second T.O. location in the Toy Factory Lofts.

Lettieri is my fave of the chains.

B-Cafe on Queen St E @ Mutual St is also quite good.

Best coffee probably goes to Havana's though at the south-west corner of Av & Dav.

Le Gormand on Spadina at Richmond is good (thought they have one of those sandwich press things, and they don't properly ventilate the place, so when you leave, you sometimes stink of whatever they pressed - a detail that sometimes keeps me away).

Just as a nice conscientious fuzzy-wuzzy neighbourhood jernt, Alternative Grounds over on Roncy...

Private Eyes on King? (for atmosphere)

for croissants go to Clafouti on Queen W @ trinitybellwood.

i'll say either Tango in leslieville (Queen/Jones) or Diabolos at UofT (in the UC JCR)
