Atom Egoyan's "Chloe" & Toronto's Starring Role

As many of you already know, Atom Egoyan's new film is entitled "Chloe". It is the first feature film set in Toronto that has been completely funded by foreign studios and investors. The film had its world premiere at TIFF '09. It stars Liam Neeson, Julianne Moore, and Amanda Seyfried in the title role. The screenplay was written by Erin Cressida, and hometown boy Ivan Reitman acted as the film's producer.

The story is a remake of the 2003 French film "Nathalie", directed by Anne Fontaine. "Chloe" seems to be Egoyan's attempt at breaking into the mainstream.

So far, reviews of the film have been strong and The Star's Peter Howell says Toronto has never looked this "sexy".

I think this is a great thing for Toronto.

A trailer hasn't been released for the film yet. I'm sure the press and media surrounding this film will explode in the coming weeks.

I saw the flick and it does make use of some lovely TO locations, especially around Yorkville. Also lots of Allan Gardens, a fancy home which I guess is in Rosedale...

I actually saw it at the Royal and there was a quite a chuckle from the crowd when they cut to an important scene at Cafe Diplomatico, just a block away.
 
the film is set to be released in Canada in December. no trailer yet and a studio has not yet picked it up for distribution in the US. i can't see this hold out lasting much longer but it would be a tragedy if Chloe did not get a WIDE release.

even more importantly, the film has entirely recouped its initial investment. this bodes well for toronto as a future filming location. and i thought the love guru had doomed us all.

Toronto already featured prominantly in Exotica. And it seems the actors in Chloe aren't even Canadian...
 
Not every actor in a Hollywood movie is American either. It's good to see the best of the world coming to Toronto to work here.
 
Exotica is set in a Toronto in a very neutral way. It could be almost anywhere.

Chloe is about as emphatically set in Toronto as a Woody Allen movie is in New York. It's a noticeable difference. The fact that "Hollywood" actors are in it only serves to emphasize how unique this is, as opposed to watering down it's Toronto cred.
 
I must agree with TJ on this one. And remember, this is the first film set in Toronto that has been completely financed outside of Canada. I'd say that's a pretty big deal.
 
The bar shot with Julianne Moore is at One (Hazelton Hotel), and the shot of her kissing Liam Neeson is the greehouse at Allen Gardens.

The Club Monaco shot you see has them sitting inside The Rivoli (you can see the yellow railing outside).
