6 Walmer Road

Does anyone know the story behind 6 Walmer Road in the Annex?
I have walked past here many times and wondered how this beautiful old house in such a prime location could stand abandoned like that.

My guess is that its heritage designation prevents the owner from tearing it down, so he's just waiting for it to fall down on its own.

It is a shame it has been sitting there boarded up for years. Perhaps its location right behind Bloor makes it undesirable as a traditional single occupancy house? I am surprised the owner of this would just sit on it without trying to generate some revenue. If they fixed it up it would make for a very desirable rental property at the very least. Our heritage legislation is so toothless I doubt that would stop someone from trying to fix it up

I'm just guessing, but I bet that this is owned by the very worst kind of developer. He probably lives out in the 905 and hasn't been downtown in years, and doesn't understand that a lot of people would pay a fortune to live in one of those beautiful old houses, a lot more than they would pay if he ever got to tear it down.
