    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Probably because Eglinton West is a fully grade separated extension, meanwhile Crosstown has at grade segments. Its a distinction that creates a pretty silly separation, but I imagine they're looking at these projects in complete isolation, and in isolation Eglinton West is a subway.

What this guys exact qualifications I'm not 100% sure, but regardless as I've said before, his words line up with what I've heard from other trustworthy sources.

The underground section will use ATC... That's like, literally what the discussion over the last few pages has been about.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I feel like there's a fundamental misunderstanding between what I'm saying, and what you think I'm saying, because ultimately I think we're in agreement here. I'm not advocating for anything, nor am I making any statement of feasibility (in terms of what is or isn't physically possible). My...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

The SRT had a system where operators had to switch from manual operations to an ATO system whilst running in between stations? News to me. The issue isn't that it's difficult to turn off ATO, it's difficult to enter an ATO zone and enable it whilst in motion. To my knowledge this isn't...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

My best guess (and this is the part where I admit I could be wrong) is that this way they could short turn trains in the pocket track using ATO. Granted I'm not sure this is the complete reasoning since I know ATO can run whilst other trains are in manual (and on many lines such as the NYC 7...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

ATO is the automatic operations of a train, where you have an operator that supervises the train, but the train drives itself. ATP is simply a security system that can communicate with other trains and signals, however the operation of the trains remains firmly in the operator's hands. There is...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

ATP is a completely different beast from ATO, it's not comparable.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I don't think it's about whether or not it can be installed (although I think there is value in the idea that the flexities weren't designed with them in mind), but rather the complexities of transitioning to/from ATO whilst the vehicle is in motion, travelling through Brentcliffe Portal...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

It allows for it, but only.in emergency situations. Even when we had partial availability of ATC, the transition took place at stations where trains could transition at a standstill. With Eglinton, not only do we need to transition as a regular part of the lines operations, but the transition...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

I think you're pulling too many hairstrings over the "Streetcar vs LRT" nomenclature. The poster is clearly referring to the difference in running the LRT using ATO vs on street operation, in which case this is a very valid problem. There are very few, if any, instances of ATO being used on...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

My question is why? We are already double tracking the Barrie Line with side platforms, and according to the information this will take 4 years to build (so earliest finish late 2028). The explanation by @crs1026 implies that they're thinking of triple tracking the station, which would be...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I'm just taking the claim where staff think Agincourt is more important to serve than Kennedy, and inhaling all the Hopium I possibly can from it.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I have a moral objection to using the ignore button. I guess its a relative thing, where you're elevating over an existing bridge. Looking at it though, I don't see what the issue would be with just elevating it on the north side of Sheppard, running above the road that connects the parking...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

I could've bought that maybe 2 years ago? But it's really hard to believe you when you have a tendency to actively ignore what people tell you. You say 1 thing, people tell you why you're wrong, then 2 pages later you bring up the same point again and keep digging deeper.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

TBMs are best used in dense urban areas where you have to cut under buildings, and where roads are impossible to deal with. The prime example are European Downtowns where streets are narrow and a complete mess: You won't be able to build anything cut and cover under Rome for instance. Sheppard...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

If we want to do a funny (not an actual suggestion), the median of the Sheppard Ave underpass was built with a future LRT in mind. We could just reuse that as part of the subway extension, and have two portals on either side of the underpass. It's probably not realistic from an engineering/cost...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

And on what authority do local businesses have to speak in what they think is best. Historically they're most interested in building nothing at all. The Canada Line in Vancouver. It took 4 years to build (2005 - 2009), and around 10km of which is tunneled, mostly Cut and Cover.
