    Toronto Queen & Ashbridge | 60.15m | 17s | Context Development | Teeple Architects

Random and irregular seems to be the theme here.

    Toronto 216 Bathurst Street | ?m | 2s | XANA | Ava Janikowski

Yesterday I spotted a backhoe doing some excavation behind the building, and today some workers putting up some signage to this long neglected property.that was once the rather mysterious and sketchy Oak Leaf Steam Baths. Here’s an article about the Oak Leaf...

the interior definitely looks no frills.

222 Spadina (Supportive Housing within former hotel space)

There’s a lot of vacant commercial and retail kiosk spaces at Chinatown Centre, that’s where the unpaid taxes are coming from. The shopping centre doesn’t seem to be well maintained and fallen to a state of neglect, especially the lower level which gets very little retail traffic and feels very...

Looks like the two detached homes are going up first:

Besides the 1-bedroom units, all of the other unit types looks to be extremely generous in size: 1-bedroom avg. unit size: 516 sq.ft. 2-bedroom avg. unit size: 1,658 sq.ft. 3-bedroom avg. unit size: 2,056 sq.ft. Private student residence avg. unit size: 1,292 sq.ft. (this might be for a...

    Toronto Ontario Line: King-Bathurst Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

Quite possibly the slickest construction site entry, or maybe testing a prototype for the TTC turnstiles? There’s even a digital/video screen/card reader.

    Toronto Loft 45 Condos | ?m | 4s | Berkshire Axis | BDP Quadrangle

I question the longevity of that painted finish on that prematurely failing siding. Even pre-finished Hardy Board from Home Depot would have been a much better choice.

taken three nights ago: Full (super) moon and another bright moon, the very bright PCL sign on the crane, as seen from Bathurst.

    Ajax 425 Bayly Street West | 193.24m | 60s | VanDusen Realty Holdings | Icon

This does not make sense at all! It’s not even reasonably walkable to a GO Station. Even if it’s adjacent to a transit hub, it’s way too tall, monstrous and grossly out of context from the rest of the neighbourhood or town. This will potentially add more than 6,000 residents to this block. Where...

    Toronto Ontario Line: King-Bathurst Station | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | HDR

It’s a blank canvas screaming for artwork. Maybe some moving artistic backlighting or video projections (from inside) for Nuit Blanche would be really cool.

    Toronto Loft 45 Condos | ?m | 4s | Berkshire Axis | BDP Quadrangle

Whoa, they are already painting the peeling siding only after a few months of installation?!!! This building is so underwhelming, I can’t believe Quadrangle designed this (or maybe they were just hired to do the working drawings). It looks like an aging utility building.

    Toronto 50 Scollard | 147.62m | 41s | Lanterra | Foster + Partners

I actually like topiaries, though not the kind of kitschy Disney-esque ones that resembles animals, people or other objects very literally. It will bring a unique stately and whimsical touch to this project. Though it’s bad Feng Shui as topiaries, like bonsais, is a process to limit, stunt...

    Toronto Artistry Condos | 103.5m | 29s | Tribute | Graziani + Corazza

A BlogTO article that actually has substance: https://www.blogto.com/real-estate-toronto/2024/07/292-dundas-street-west-toronto/ While I appreciate brutalism, this podium is thoughtless and grossly out of context to its surroundings. Will the concrete be painted as per the renderings? The...

    Toronto West Don Lands: Block 13 | 139.31m | 43s | Dream | Henriquez Partners

I actually love the folded canopies. It provides some shade and privacy from the neighbouring balconies, and creates an interesting animated design element which most condo buildings lack here. Henriquez designed a building in Vancouver that has this feature on the entire two sides of the...

    Toronto KING Toronto | 57.6m | 16s | Westbank | Bjarke Ingels Group

BIG designed a similar building (in Stockholm) but clad in wood. I know with our climate and building codes this would not fly here, but it looks really nice. (photos courtesy of Dezeen)

    Toronto KING Toronto | 57.6m | 16s | Westbank | Bjarke Ingels Group

Westbank‘s philosophy is about uncompromising design and quality if you look at their other developments. They work with acclaimed architects and designers, and their developments are high design and luxury with prices to match. This what their purchasers are expecting and is what they are known...

    Toronto KING Toronto | 57.6m | 16s | Westbank | Bjarke Ingels Group

It’s a very wide building with a courtyard, so there’s lots of area of cladding to install. Also, the facades have a lot of articulation (especially facing King Street), so it’s not your typical glass tower with the walls that goes straight up which makes for a pretty straight forward installation.
