Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Would you agree that had they decided to replace the fleet back then, ignoring those costs, the subsidy would have gone down due to the lower operational costs for the same number of equipment? If so, can you see how even though not explicitly stated, that the age of the existing LDF is a...

Let's be honest, the government will drag their heels on anything they can. Sometimes there is a valid reasonable reason, and other times,it is just because they can. A change in Government won't change that. What is needed is to bring back accountability (did it ever exist?) to politicians.

Very much agree. None of them, including the ones we love or hate cannot see past their next election. The problem is, for much of the investment needed it can take several government mandates for it to be fulfilled. But, this all does go back to when someone wants to argue that the 1990s cuts...

Ah,so it is more a case of "why waste time on trying to make it work today when it will work tomorrow"? I notice there is usually some slight scheduling adjustments once a year. Why not roll out those changes at that time? Of course, that would be only if those changes would be longer...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

As I am out enjoying an East Coast vacation (Sadly not on rail),I am visiting several national parks. I am noticing their condition. They are clean. However, some parts are, well, worn out. Whether it be old style lighting to the single pane windows to the condition of the roads, they may be...

This makes no sense. I read the whole post and it sounds like you are saying that during these times of unprecedented changes, we cannot introduce chances. The problem right now is a low platform slowing things down at all stations.High platforms, especially is needed at the major stations. One...

You could have any major station be built for the trains on specific platforms. I realize that if there becomes a reason to close platforms, that could make things more challenging, but it could solve the problems that we think exist.

Ever compete? Ever push yourself to the limit? Ever keep pushing? Vomiting is possible. So are a whole host of medical problems. Doesn't mean the river wasn't a problem or not.As a swimmer,I would rather not swim in that river either.

That is a possibility. However,if we look at why the oil, tire and bus companies wanted it switched to buses it was because they could not make money on electric rails. Imagine being able to make money without ever leaving the ground. Would we say the same things if the government was looking to...

It s also the largest of the code share alliances. They could see rail as the next untapped market to enter and this bid is their way into Canada. If West Jet put a bid in for the C-E HSR, would that be bad?likely no worse than this. The problem goes back to how airports and railways operate in...

    General railway discussions

https://www.facebook.com/groups/1042886365744886 There is a Facebook group of the Canadian that has been very good at getting information on all of it. As I understand it, the station was saved, but no word on any damage. CN is back up and running through, but crew changes are happening in...

I can see how you mean. Maybe WJ should have gone in with another consortium. Part of me hates when big conglomerates happen. In this instance, since we have no competition with any other rail carrier in Canada, I am not so upset. The question will be whether their bid is even that attractive...

    VIA Rail

How could it be manipulated in such a way that it would be bad for consumers? Faster trans?Lower fares? No baggage fees? Good food? Easy booking website? Seriously, what could HFR do that would be bad for consumers and bad for other airlines? It is time rail travel competes with air travel...

If you want more slots at the airport for more [profitable routes, having a code share with a railway that can all but replace the air routes would be a good business venture. Funny that you and I would be polar opposite on this. Air Canada seems to make air travel work well for most...

When I was younger, and much less informed, I thought if GO went to it, it was the GTA.To be fair,I only knew of 2 major divisions in the province Northern and Southern Ontario. Now there is central, eastern southwestern, northeastern, northwestern, and then things like the GGH, GTA, GTHA, ad...

If your goal is that at that singular station, it fills a 10-12 car train for each of the times, then no station except Union fits that bill. However, if the question is would more people ride it than take a bus, that is a better question. The problem for Collingwood is there is no GO bus there...

So, instead of GTA, it would be correct to use GGH? I'll try to remember. Peterborough might when/if VIA HFR is built. Collingwood might for the same reasons Niagara does - tourism. I was more using them as locations to describe the areas out of the GTA that is not Southwestern Ontario.

In this day and age, is there a sporting event that being there, in the stands gives you a better vantage than tv broadcasters give you? Of course there is the prestige of saying you were there, but that no longer matters to most people these days.

Sounds like a simple - yes hey do - to my question. That is good to hear. The problem is, places like Collingwood or Peterborough or Port Hope are all not even part of the south central parts, so even then,it is not that simple. Each could have GO trains soon enough.... Honestly,I feel GO has...
