Toronto Cherry House at Canary Landing | 50.32m | 13s | Dream | COBE Architects

Having passed by many times, it doesn't look good in nice weather either, IMHO. Not helped by the bitsy window wall. Oh well, it's only an entire block. :)

    Toronto West Don Lands: Block 13 | 139.31m | 43s | Dream | Henriquez Partners

OOF, some Panel members did not sound happy. To summarize the comments on colour, the architect said they had been discouraged from using colour by the City and community, who said all the buildings should "look the same". I'd like to know who in the community allegedly said that, as I'm not...

Well, the government is elected and makes the law (within the confines of the constitution), so it's actually the most accountable. Arguably, any system that prioritizes private interests over the choices of the legislature is anti-democratic. People might disagree with what the government is...

It looks exactly like that in real life. I wouldn't even call it brick, it looks more like a tile or breeze block. I like it.

Ouch. This is one of the harshest downgrades I've seen in a while. It hurts even more coming from a developer that I normally trust to invest in the neighbourhood.

    Toronto Pinnacle One Yonge | 345.5m | 105s | Pinnacle | Hariri Pontarini

I think a lot of people would disagree that this is the heritage we should be saving. I have nothing against brutalism, and there are many great and interesting examples that should be preserved, but this building, frankly, is ugly, demonstrates almost nothing in terms of unique craftsmanship...

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

I take your notes (and love your expert contributions), but I always push back against criticisms of the linear park along Front Street. I think it's fantastic. UT contributors often gripe about a lack of public realm and park space, then a neighbourhood is built that provides that space...

This is a dangerous line of conspiracy, as it undermines confidence in the judiciary without any real evidence of bias. First, there is a difference between provincial court judges (who conduct bail hearings, hear matters relating to provincial offences under the Highway Traffic Act, Fire Code...

    Eastern Avenue Bridge/DVP Interchange

Back to the topic at hand. I wrote to the City / construction manager and received the following information on the multi-use trail (MUT): As part of the Eastern Avenue bridge rehabilitation, it is planned to replace the existing sidewalk on the south side of the Eastern Avenue bridge (Bridge...

    Eastern Avenue Bridge/DVP Interchange

Well, it's a $65 million project that involves replacing the asphalt, repairing the concrete roadway, replacing the bridge walls, replacing expansion joints, repairing underside steel trusses, building a new multi-use path (which requires some road reconfiguration), and building two portions of...

    Toronto Crosstown LRT: Leaside Station | ?m | 1s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Looks like they graded them perfectly, as there's a drain right in the middle. But the drain doesn't seem to be draining.

Pret A Manger coming to Canada!

I totally get the appeal. It's faster than fast food without being garbage food, the product is pretty standardized, and its relatively cheap. Great as a tourist or to grab a quick lunch on a busy day. I see outlets doing brisk business in St. Lawrence Market, the PATH, Yorkville, near the...

Toronto Cherry House at Canary Landing | 50.32m | 13s | Dream | COBE Architects

I'm not quite sold on this corrugated metal panelling or the really broken up window wall. Hopefully it looks better en masse because we're getting many kilometres of it...

Would it be fair to say they will be able to see through time and space? :P

    Toronto 641 Queen East | 29.1m | 9s | Streetcar | Giaimo

I walked by on Monday and it seemed like all the commercial units are now vacant. It leads me to believe they intend to proceed.

They're very expensive, but you can buy basically unbreakable locks now -- even power tools will wear out before they are cut. Removing an e-bike battery is also a deterrent, although a pain to carry around. I also confirmed in writing with my insurance company that my e-bike is covered under my...

    Toronto 88 Bathurst | 68.3m | 17s | Hines | 3XN

This building seems quite far along, but there’s so much key cladding left to be installed. The balcony separations, the entire podium, the underside of the transfer slabs. I still cannot form a judgement, but I think it might turn out well. At a minimum , it’s a nice warm colour overall.

Toronto The Charles at Church | 152.7m | 47s | Aspen Ridge | BDP Quadrangle

Overall, it’s turning out better than I expected. Which is not to say I love the balcony design or don’t wish they had done something more sympathetic with the beautiful old buildings. But it has some nice qualities and isn’t a stinker.

    Toronto Artists' Alley | 121.91m | 39s | Lanterra | Hariri Pontarini

I find the ground level and the protruding boxes to be way too busy. I think the project also would have benefitted greatly from the use of brown brick or stone on the podiums (too uniformly white for me). BUT, I love the distinctive pie latticework tower and the general effect this project...
