GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I think a lot of the crossings on the Stouffville line south of Unionville. Google maps shows they're just laying down a second track across the road instead of grade separating. MX still hasn't begun grade separating Danforth.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Interesting developments regarding trains in Alberta. https://calgary.ctvnews.ca/danielle-smith-transportation-minister-in-calgary-for-passenger-rail-forum-1.7119792 https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/alberta-passenger-rail-plan-1.7391158 Alberta government wants Calgary to have their...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

No doubt MX is heading down the "value-engineering" path. The reversal on the Scarborough junction improvements, constructing at grade crossings instead of following through with the grade separation projects on the Stouffville line, and the recent purchase of second hand, F59's from Metrolink...

    General railway discussions

CN doesn't care. They don't even want VIA on their track. A fair question. Why even bother with a fixed schedule if you don't have your own ROW?

You suck it up and play by CN's rules. I know that's not the answer you're looking for, but it's the answer you're going to have to accept. Even if you don't like it.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I'm having a difficult time finding any renderings of what Aurora GO will look like after construction is completed. The most information I could find was a posted in a blog for the Mayor of Aurora. But this post dated back to February 2020. Knowing MX, how relevant is this information? Is there...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Except I'm not arguing for cars. I'm arguing that we should extend or construct rapid transit lines to existing GO stations instead of building new GO stations. Does it make sense to construct an entirely new GO station to replace a 5 minute bus ride to the nearest GO station? No.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Aurora GO; Anyone know what the columns are for? Is the plan to have the double track come to an abrupt end at Aurora GO? Or are they going to tie it into the single track somewhere north of Aurora GO? In this photo you can see where the double track comes to an end.

    Photos I took today of the double tracking progress on the Barrie line. Maple GO; King City GO;

    General railway discussions

Canadians need to realise our country wasn't blessed with canals fit for shipping like the U.S. has with the Mississippi or the E.U. has with the Rhine. Closest thing we have is maybe the Fraser River in B.C.? Regardless, because of this, we're heavily reliant on the railroads to move our...

    General railway discussions

"Embarrassed". How about we stop caring what other countries think about us? We'll do what works for us. Being the second largest country in the world with a population of only 40 million poses unique challenges that these other countries don't have to deal with. It's not as if people in Europe...

If you consider "diesel-electric" to be electric, then yes. In that case, the entire GO network has already been electrified.

    General railway discussions

Anyone who thinks Class 1 freight companies are going to electrify their entire network must be joking. Imagine how much more difficult it would be to deal with a derail with all the overhead cables and catenaries. Contrary to popular belief among N.A. urbanists, countries like the U.K. still...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

How much can GO realistically increase service levels for their trains when Canadian regulations force them to operate every train with a 3 man crew? If every station had level boarding, would GO still need a CSA in every train?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The conductors and engineers will get transferred over. They're unionized. The office staff who work for MX directly, their future is in question.

    QEW - Mississauga/Credit River Project

Probably already asked but forgot the answer. Is this bridge work is being done to widen the highway and accomodate future HOV lane extension from Trafalgar Rd.?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Anyone got any more insider info on how the hand over of GO train operations to Onxpress is playing out? Is it going smoothly? I thought as we got closer to the Jan. 1st 2025 handover date that we would see more announcements from Metrolinx about the status of the handover. There doesn't seem to...
