    A bigger Canada?

Seeing an interracial couple tends to stick out in your mind, so people overestimate how many there actually are. I have no trouble believing Chinese outmarry at a low rate. In my entire extended family I can think of only two or three who have married someone outside the community.

Mosque/Community Centre near Ground Zero - your thoughts?

Your analogy is very melodramatic but not very pertinent to the actual situation being posed here.

Mosque/Community Centre near Ground Zero - your thoughts?

I don't have a problem with building a community center in a former factory that happens to be nearby ground zero. However I have a feeling this place is going to be constantly vandalized (or worse) if they go ahead with it, thanks to the media coverage.

    A bigger Canada?

I'm surprised he isn't back in Serbia preserving the Serbian homeland and all that jazz.

    A bigger Canada?

When LAz is prepared to back his bags and leave Canada to the First Nations, then I'll start to take seriously his claims about preserving historical nations and their people.

I'm Not A City Planner, But I Play One in Video Games

I guess some people can get a bit of fun out of management and (virtual) creation as its own "end", as opposed to needing a big goal plastered on the screen to tell you you've won (i.e. moved from left to right avoiding enemies).

    Has Political Correctness Destroyed Britain?

It's a silly question. I guess there are so many race riots here in Canada, explaining the lack of hearing them on the news.

    FOX News

With the introduction of Glenn Beck, O'Reilly seems much more moderate. Like Jon Stewart said, it's like being the thinnest kid at fat camp.

    is racism common in Toronto?

Personal experience growing up in them. Not for everybody. My parents live in Markham and rarely encounter people of different ethnic groups in their day-to-day lives.

    Canadian patriotism... Or lack of...

Maybe *gasp* children of immigrants identify with Canada, where they have lived their entire lives, than a foreign nation they've heard through the stories of their parents? But I suppose we should all buy into Beez' childish idea of bloodline nostalgia for people's ancestral homes. And his...

    Creationism vs Evolution

You are basically proving my point. You don't seem to understand evolution either.

    Creationism vs Evolution

Well, that's because most of the religious people who have backpedaled into saying that evolution is "God's laws" usually don't understand evolution themselves. I too cannot understand why people who hold "Christian values" dear to them would say that evolution was "guided by God's hand".

    Creationism vs Evolution

Neither side knows ALL the answers. The only difference is that science takes a reasoned approach to try and answer them, while religion fabricates one particular answer (God did it) and expresses it as a fact. Religion is blind belief, and this will never be a positive thing. Does science...

    Creationism vs Evolution

You're already coming from the wrong angle. You are presenting some vague belief and then expecting others to disprove it. Do we also have to disprove the flying spaghetti monster? Do you believe in sun worship? Why not? You haven't disprove it, right? Well, the answer is because you don't...

    Creationism vs Evolution

Which is exactly my point. People used to believe in the Bible literally, and now they pick-and-choose whatever fits modern science without contradiction. What exactly is the relevance of asking this question? What if the Pope took a lie detector test and it revealed he didn't believe in...

    Creationism vs Evolution

Not really. Your post is pretty characteristic of the kind of thinking that people like Dawkins criticize. What I'm getting for your posts is that you don't really have a knowledge of the science behind your posts - first the "random chance" comment (evolution is the complete opposite of...

    is racism common in Toronto?

Yeah, probably sounds shocking if you haven't been a part of these communities and seen it for yourself. The real world isn't so clear as "opressing majority vs. opressed minority", particularly in Toronto.

    is racism common in Toronto?

So you're saying that if someone who wasn't in a position of power got up and said that some ethnic group was stupid and should be deported, it's not racist? I don't understand the logic behind that one. And I still think most racism comes from ethnic communities.
  19. jenny_zhang

    is racism common in Toronto?

While I definitely agree that there is too much ethnic nepotism in the community, I should say that a lot of people in Markham's insulated Chinese community don't have great English skills either and that might be an additional factor in why they were all crowding in the Chinese shops with...

    is racism common in Toronto?

Maybe. Some places, like my hometown Markham, have been getting more and more ethnically isolated in recent history. Not much jumbling together going on. And that's a big problem. Similarly, people praise Vancouver for its multiculturalism, but to be honest, it's mostly just becoming a...
