    VIA Rail

It does seem to me that the FRA takes a more aggressive approach to ADA than occurs here. I couldn’t imagine that there would not be pressure on VIA to have high platforms in places like London and Windsor where they have one or more platforms off the main. Compare the Amsterdam, NY station...

Downtown Brampton Flood Protection Project - Environmental Assessment

Interesting that the BBOT wants the SPA designation lifted by the province but isn’t (here) suggesting Queens Park front up any money to make the enabling project happen - just feds and local tax rolls.

    TTC: Major Operational Issues (Various)

I can’t imagine the period of hot weather we are having is making it easy to do track work - we may have seen reduced speed zones in open cut areas anyway?

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

The Boise plant is gone so that would be an interesting situation.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

21K in Uxbridge. Double that in Timmins. Who can say what makes sense any more :) remember, half way along the line is Goodwood, a town so small it was chosen as the shooting location for the town parts of Schitt’s Creek. https://indie88.com/goodwood-ontario-aka-schitts-creek/amp/

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

Yeah but that doesn’t promote my hater agenda to get Proterra and/or BYD off the TTC fleet list so…

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Isn’t part of the rationale behind not building GO out to Uxbridge that they don’t want to contribute to development pressure because of water/sewer capacity restrictions? I have wondered if there would be any point in examining leisure/weekend service to keep rust off the rails without...

    VIA Rail

There was a time when if I had been made head of/god-emperor of VIA, I would have canned almost all their customer experience and marketing folks and replaced them with Porter’s, back in the airline’s early days when improving the customer experience was their USP. I don’t see the same...

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

If we want to have transit vehicles on the islands that are electric, not a lot of use elsewhere, and soon to be an anachronism that will draw transit fans but not much love otherwise, I suggest transferring the TTC’s Proterra fleet to PF&R and let them contract with someone else to maintain...

    Toronto Harbour Ferries

It's possible to pay a water taxi to get to the island and then use the city ferry for free on the way back - the rationale I've heard for that in the past is "we don't want people to have no way home if they lose their wallet". A pedestrian bridge would allow the City to check / impose fares on...

Maps of Toronto's old rail lines?

Just noticed this. Interesting to see someone so associated with Windsor getting the nod for this. She ran in Windsor West federally in 2021.

    General railway discussions

Talking about London getting a population bump thanks for more GO transit service when the property market there is already at full stretch, and there is local resistance to supply growth, seems like a solution chasing the wrong problem

    VIA Rail

Reminder for those who invoke Brightline as a comparator to our situation. The FECR created Brightline (All Aboard Florida). BL are not some plucky upstart who used Jack Donaghy tactics and railfan forum wishful thinking to outwit the ogres of the freight company and get an operations deal...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Did you miss the fuss about train 643 651 not coming back after COVID?

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Were it not for the CPKC merger, Borealis might not have happened at all. But clearly the volumes of potential passengers - catchments in the million or millions even with conservative catchment calculations, at start middle and end of the run were worth using the bargaining chip the merger...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

I was hoping for the actual subdivision acquisition costs. Where those pieces refer to sums expended, it is in signalling and track improvement not what consideration went CN’s way.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

If Brampton really wanted to ensure it didn’t come back, putting new sewer/stormwater infra under the alignment might be a more firm way to say “stop dreaming, it’s over”

    Coxwell Sanitary Trunk Sewer Bypass

But meantime there are smartasses on Twitter claiming the City isn’t doing any of this work because it’s blowing the money on renaming streets with names they don’t find familiar enough

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

But what if some or all the track would be abandoned otherwise?

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

How much did buying the Chatham, Alexandria and Brockville subdivisions cost, and which government came up with the $ for that? (I looked but couldn’t discern it from the search results)
