GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Apologies if this was said upthread and I missed it, but are GO doing the bike car retrofit themselves, or having someone else do it?

    Finch West Line 6 LRT

Nothing will create urgency in Metrolinx other than an offer to co-fund

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

They bought the 2700+2700 locos because they couldn’t buy 4000+1000 locos any more (they could not be made to Tier 4 standard)

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Thanks - clearly I forgot the CP ends a bit short at Stevensville

    VIA Rail

According to this article, the railway company claims industrial paints are being used to defeat standard cleaning, and drones to monitor for any security response to the taggers...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

If only it were feasible to send some GO trains between Hamilton GO Centre and Fort Erie on the CP… but maybe CP would not like that precedent set.

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

Welcome news in some respects. It clearly took some time to accomplish that work and yet MTO and Metrolinx’ secrecy culture demanded that people rage about this with no indication of action. I do also wonder whether Metrolinx was obliged to self fund this or whether, as should be the case, MTO...

    VIA Rail

Can we not with this. We are comparing entire countries to an individual inter-regional operator. Within those countries there will be operators who provide good service and those that do not, and in other situations where the same operator may have better stations than VIA and worse on train...

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Even if Alstom did build EMUs for GO, GO doesn’t have the same platform heights as NJT, or their Hudson tunnel height constraint. Accordingly, components in the NJT design may need to be accommodated or at least be more easily accommodated elsewhere in a bilevel design

According to the Transport Action Canada Twitter, a Venture set operated train 78 in service. According to the account this was the first revenue operation of Venture in SouthWestern Ontario

    Toronto Lower Don Lands Redevelopment | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Waterfront Toronto explicitly said on Twitter that the tower must go in order for flood relief measures to be completed. There may be room for dispute over that, but that is their line. That said, given the picture above, the dismantling option doesn’t appear to have survived “exploration”

    VIA Rail

Theoretically yes, but this may depend on the intended tempo of the F40 re-re-build program, the impact of the F40s damaged in BC (impact) and ON (fire) lately, and how urgently the P42s need to be sent to pasture. The additional loco will also impact axle count charges and fuel usage so may not...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I remember hearing the stop request chime all right - thanks for the insight!

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Today in “huh, weird” I was sitting on 8778 at Donlands Station waiting for the operator to return from break when suddenly the horn started blaring. After a couple of minutes the operator appeared, got in the cab and the horn was silenced. That’s just a weird mechanical/electrical issue, right?

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Given the construction context, I doubt there are many points of comparison to make a cost comparison helpful. Many of the Crosstown stations are being constructed in difficult contexts with adjoining buildings needing to be underpinned, plus two interchanges with existing tunnels. What would...

GO Transit Fleet Equipment and other

The 2010 EA had a few storage tracks facing east and then a phase 2 yard facing west including a PM bay. But it wasn’t clear whether this was in addition to Lewis Road or only if it didn’t get built (and a facility at St Catharines was also kept in scope)

    East Don Trail Project

I would not argue that said crossing “works”. I wonder about how to make it disappear every time I travel over it. Sadly thanks to the many constraints in the area, it will likely never happen.

    Quebec-Windsor Corridor

I am not conversant with Japanese train organization - does one organization (e.g. JR East) operate all trains and infra in their region of operations, or do regional train operators run the local trains? Is there a similar situation to the CN/VIA/GO/Metrolinx setup we have in the GTA where...
