It's a very toxic site - any serious plans to revitalize the site and incorporate this hulking behemoth in a bold new venture has to involve eye-watering expenditures of cash, merely to clean it up.

Then it really is your loss. Wanting striking new buildings to be tall enough for you to see from your digs is a curious yardstick to use.

Those are all reasonable points, particularly the unit sizes and remaining respectful of views of local historical structures. Too, that podium, for all its curves and sculpted elevations, remains a bit daunting. Regardless of whatever eventually unfolds, I will not shed a tear for the Greyhound...

That coffee shop, Propeller, is also a nice draw in immediate area. Spacious interior with a vibe that resonates with the historic industrial infrastructure surrounding it. Good brew, too.

That underpass is great, definitely opens up options for cyclists and pedestrians. Initially I feared this building would be a bad fit for the 'hood but in retrospect it's a nice contrast and I'm excited about the new life being breathed into this area.

What a wild change to that area. Incredible. Some of the design details have me scratching my head but in general I like the massing. The rounded corners of that one terra cotta-colored segment are sweet - I'd like to see more of that. I

All those tanks, too. I remember quite a few of them remaining even in the early aughts, when I first began to explore the Portlands with my camera.

Regardless of the projected timelines, this feels a bit unfinished. Agreed that the two shorter towers are perfunctory, nothing more - whereas the massing on the tallest tower, for all of its tiny details, feels a bit fussy and over-designed.

I'm kinda conflicted by that beige/grey stone too, looks bland to me. I'll have to have a wander and see for myself sometime.

I How does it create bad urbanism? Yeah, sound stages take up space, certainly - so do the necessary production offices. But those in turn generates lots of jobs, both for the people working in those facilities and all of the suppliers - caterers, film equipment rentals, sets and props rentals...

There are people who want the Portlands to be done over in the same way - build new commercial attractions and lots of shiny new residential. That ignores the venerable industrial base which is still very much operating down there - and the film production facilities too, for that matter, even...
