    SmartTrack (Proposed)

How the hell did we end up with paying for the Lansdowne station again? That was never originally part of smarttrack and it was really pitched as a gift to the people of the Davenport Diamond area for putting up with all that work. Really pisses me off to see it included here

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

The correct solution would be to have the 413 connect to the 407 a couple km before it merges with 401, and then have a section of the 413 continue west several km past the existing merge area and connect with the 401 Theres no magic bullet solution but at least you don't have all three roads...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Yeah im so confused why they would choose this place to connect the 413. Its just adding fuel to the fire. Even if you are pro-413 you'd have to admit this is a bad idea.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

Another downside with the sound walls is that I was hoping there would be room to squeeze a multi use trail next to the tracks, especially with the hydro towers being removed. But with the walls, it makes it a bit dangerous and not very convenient to use a trail. Also not very enjoyable either.

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I really wish MX had a system map showing the progress of double(or quad etc) tracking on it. Not just a pin where work is going on but literally showing the length where the track is going in, etc. For the whole network

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Considering this, its crazy what they did to the LRT track at this section, with those huge barriers. Almost seems out of spite for the proceeding work.

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

They can time the pedestrian/bike crossing to be in-sync with the two nearest intersections so that the bike crossing turns green when the intersections nearest it turn green opposing Eglinton as well. This is what they do at the Beltline crossings. That way the LRT only stops once, provided...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Update was pushed out about the East Don Trail. https://trca.ca/conservation/infrastructure-projects/east-don-trail-project/news/#11-28-24 Looks like the section from Bermondsey down to the East Don Trail tunnel under the Bala Sub train line is paved (sans top coat finish) Still waiting on...

    VIA Rail

Agreed. But looking at your chart, I still would make the 6:10 sarnia train the express and not the 6:25 London. Its my opinion that the longer the trip, the more express the service should be. 3:54 is still not great, although better than 5 hours for sure haha. Perhaps that 6:25 London trip is...

    VIA Rail

Ha I appreciate this discussion everyone, but I just want to be clear that I only would want one train a day from Sarnia; the return of the 3:20 train, even if it was at the expense of the 5 hour one through the GEXR sub. At the very least, until the track conditions are fixed to be faster...

    Cycling infrastructure (Separated bike lanes)

Looks great!! My only wish, is that we would adopt a bit of a wider MUP standard and do the whole "bikes on this side/pedestrians on this side" thing that they do elsewhere in the world. Of course, lots of people ignore the markings.

    VIA Rail

I mean the proof is in what you said, Windsor is 4 times Sarnia, and they have 4 trains while Sarnia has 1. However, if deciding between two services to cancel, the 5 hour train that crawls through the hinterland, or the train that takes 3 hours and reasonably competes with automobile travel...

    VIA Rail

A bit of an aside but it affected me personally so I have to vent. As someone who used to take the Sarnia train, it was incredibly bone-headed for VIA to cancel the faster of the two trains from Sarnia, leaving just one train that meanders through the slow milk run north line. The south route...

    VIA Rail

My understanding is that the stretch from London to Kitchener is in bad shape because CN was leasing it out to GEXR, and it wasn't really CN's line per se. I think even prior to that, GEXR built and owned it outright. GEXR is a small rail company and didnt really have the funds to properly...

    VIA Rail

The section from London to Windsor is not heavily used by CN and is in good shape. Its not mainline CN track (that goes through Sarnia) and its not a concern. Services are fine along this stretch. The willingness to purchase should be upon ROI. Currently the section between London and...

    VIA Rail

As far as I know, the section MX owns from Kitchener to Brampton...ish, is still not in the absolute best shape. They've made repairs and upgrades here and there, but its not like its Class 6 or even 5 rail or anything. So the speeds overall on the CN mainline are still much faster. Also there...

    VIA Rail

I was just curious on the speed improvement really, I doubt VIA would convert to Class 6. They most likely would fix the track to at least Class 4 though Absolutely you have to allow for CN trains, but there are something like 2 trains a day at most on that line. Thats why CN doesnt want to put...

    VIA Rail

The only thing I can think of is that CN doesn't want to own the GEXR track anymore and wants VIA to purchase it like they did for the track to Ottawa? They clearly have no interest in repairing the track, and VIA would have/want to to get things back to a good speed. It could be a way to try...
