GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Great - more service cuts. Effing Metrolinx.

Too late under this project. But a discussion point for https://urbantoronto.ca/forum/threads/ontario-line-extension-west-of-ontario-place-speculation.29469/ - where many options have been discussed.

Depends which year. However, this is what the testing is for. Can you imagine the furor if this happened a month after opening? I hope they strive for far better than NASA levels of perfection. With the space shuttle, they only had a 98.5% mission survival rate - with 1.5% of the missions...

This is literally from the April 1, 2009 funding announcement. I'd suggest you read back this thread to April 2009, if you can't remember the context. If you recall, TTC themselves endered the tunnelling contract in 2010, and this was always intended to be City-led until the Province's change...

If you look at the documents going back 17 years, you'll see that TTC's Eglinton Crosstown was fully funded from Pearson to Kennedy station. https://news.ontario.ca/en/backgrounder/5234/province-moving-transit-projects-forward

    TTC: RapidTO Bathurst Street

If they'd kept the horses, than motorists would been staying away from the horse droppings! :)

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

Indeed - and as I said, there'd be need for a passageway.

Sure, but it's another service downgrade. First it was promised 22 minutes. Then they added Weston to make it 25. Then 28. And now they are making St. Clair a UP-only stop ... bringing it to 31 minutes. What next - Woodbine for 34 minutes?

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

You should check out the emergency exits under the Channel Tunnel! Yes. Obviously there'll have to be a passageway, and multiple decks for emergencies, etc. Though if they really wants transit stations (and I doubt it), then I guess they'd need excavations. But I think that is just BS so they...

Highway 401 Transit and Auto Tunnel

Most of the distance from the 409 to the 427 is 10 lanes already,, and there's plenty of land in the right-of-way to add 2 to 4 lanes. The issue is the short 8-lane segment between Renforth and just east of the 427. If you look at an airphoto, there's huge amounts of land. The issue is the...

Ouch. 25 minutes to 28 minutes. So get rid of all the stops and it would be Blue 19!

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Given the increased number of beeps I've heard after the announcement then that suggests this pilot might work too. I'm not sure what the concern here is. Nothing indicates that they'd stop calling in security as well. But surely if someone is (I don't know) tagging a wall, they are likely to...

    Roads: Traffic Signals

The taxi exception isn't most of the day. Could easily have no greens ever during the day, and revert to them later. Better yet - get rid of the taxi exception. At the times of day it's in place, Richmond and Adelaide were always faster!

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

I see no hint of freight bypasses here. It seems to be about new GO corridors. Vaughan? Midtown? Peterborough? North Oshawa? With the extra two tracks and improved junction on the Weston sub, I'd think the missing link is dead - that's the whole point of that much cheaper project.

Alto - High Speed Rail (Toronto-Quebec City)

If they can get themselves out of the federal CEAA, and legislate themselves out of any similar provincial requirements, that could save a LOT of money. It's not like they are building large piers in a waterway that whales swim in - or building causeways through Lake Ontario.

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

Before Covid, Line 1 had 65 trains in service at peak. And there are 76 train-sets. That's a 14.5% spare ratio. Yeah, Line 2 has more spares - but this is because they got the old Line 1 and Line 4 trains, which does exceed more than they need for Line 2 operation. I think you used the current...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

As a passenger, the only issue I've had with a mix of short-trains and long-trains (at different times of the week), is the running from where you are standing to the train. I've had this on GO during the pandemic (easier now that the screens show the train length), on the New York subway, and...

The 2015 Pan Am games were all about being a rehearsal and resume fodder for the 2024/2028 Olympic bids - which Toronto bailed on.
