The coming $26 billion windfall for the Canadian Armed Forces. What to buy?

We've got enough parked Tutors in storage to keep the Snowbirds in business till the Heat Death of the universe. It's a good list based on existing published requirements and projects. This list will change substantially is we are actually allocated more and are honestly working on getting...

Former President Donald Trump's United States of America

Ideologues will never change course. They'll always have excuses. But the population will absolutely eat them alive if these policies don't pan out.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

The flip side of this is that renewables are dirt cheap now and the Conservatives are so ideologically rigid, they can't bring themselves to deploy these technologies to help lower electricity costs. I am not sure ideologically rigidity in the other direction is helpful either.

    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

There was the sale of Hydro One. There were the subsidies on six figure Teslas. There was all the targeted social programs that did squat for the middle class except send them the bill. There was the lackadaisical approach to building housing and transit (and even some flat out lying on...

The typical, "private sector can do it better". We see the same nonsense everywhere. There's a lot of people who don't understand what government funded science does. For example, I am sure there are a ton of people who would say that researching the venom of a rare lizard is some dumb waste...

    2024 United States presidential election

Male for sure. Latino? Hard to say given the split between Latinos and Democrats these days. Military background? Iffy. The real question is whether a candidate like Bill Clinton (Southern white Baptist straight male) could win in today's Democratic party. As long as their discourse is...

Former President Donald Trump's United States of America

They believe this unironically. But NASA (and the military) is the actual talent farm for Space X. And a lot of the actual ideas (like recoverable launch vehicles) were long held NASA ideas that they couldn't get funded through Congress. If they legitimately kill NASA, they are going to...

Former President Donald Trump's United States of America

Will add. This is an opportunity for Canada. Stop with the fake students. Give all these scientists and skilled bureaucrats immigration. There's already suggestions that we should enable lateral transfer for their military personnel who want out. It would be a once in a lifetime opportunity...

The bill is also defunding NASA and a huge chunk of the State Department. And this is on top of cutting the Department of Education. I don't think an actual Manchurian candidate could do better to dismantle the foundations of American success.

Former President Donald Trump's United States of America

The real question is whether Congress will push through his cuts. Or whether they push just his tax cuts and end up with a Liz Truss type financial crisis.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Gotta love the pandering on home heating from a party that claims to care about climate change. But I guess the Liberals deserve that one after their pandering.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

Not odd at all. Unserious party comes up with unserious proposal. The other parties that have to govern, actually have to think about Trump's demands ($20+ billion more in defence spending) and Trump's threats ($10+ billion in corporate tax cuts).

Their list of proposed cuts is absolutely hilarious. Starting with $120B in cuts of Veteran's Healthcare. When this shit lands with a thud instead of thunderous applause, they'll be at each other's throats.

Didn't mean it that way. Apologies if it offended you. Just saying this discussion of how they arrived at it, is a little to in the weeds.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

Air freight is kind of a poor case these days since a lot of freight is shipped in the belly of passenger airliners. There's some dedicated cargo ops at Hamilton. But I don't think the market will be big enough for a Pickering cargo operation, other than the occasional unscheduled delivery.

    Pickering Airport (Transport Canada/GTAA, Proposed)

The catchment is most certainly not 3M. Most of that 3M is within reach of Pearson or Ottawa. There is only one case for Pickering: consolidation of General Aviation in the GTA. The region does need to replace Buttonville, Oshawa, Markham and the GA parts of Billy Bishop. A well built GA...

The coming $26 billion windfall for the Canadian Armed Forces. What to buy?

The problem with getting ships is that they take a long time to get. Especially if we insist on building them in Canada. Even if we decide they will all be ordered in Korea, we're talking at least half a decade before first delivery, and 10-15 years for order completion. On the other hand...

Former President Donald Trump's United States of America

Doesn't have to be de jure. It's de facto the case because of national policy. Not sure that's germane to the discussion here. They have 21 as their drinking age. How they achieve it, isn't really important.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I was referring to our discussion diverging to complaints about Canada. If we're going back to talking about the US, make that clear.....
