Guelph Transit Update (and it's much better)

That was something else I didn't understand. A few years ago, Guelph decided to switch from plastic travel passes to ones that required people to swipe them through a machine when entering the bus. Now, I get that PRESTO has its issues but Guelph had just gotten returned GO train service and...

Guelph Transit Update (and it's much better)

As a former Guelphite, the move towards more grid-based routes is definitely nice to see. That said, the real answer to Guelph Transit's issues is so incredibly simple - increase frequencies beyond 20 minutes on routes that aren't just university bound. That will never happen with the vocal...

As someone in the middle of an MA on Victorian Canadians, we absolutely do not. In fact, many of the profs I've worked with have said that it is one of the best areas for graduate students today because so little has been written about the Victorian era in Canada - especially the histories of...

Toronto St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

Artifacts from daily life? Garbage and litter from a by-gone era? Remnants of the original buildings on the site? Maybe these things are dull to most but the mundane and everyday is just as interesting as the exciting temples and churches we keep referring to. We can always learn new things...

Exactly. Again, if people take issue with the limited resources being provided for heritage staff to do their work, we should be demanding they receive the funding necessary. Not complaining about "basement archaeologicalists."

That is an entirely subjective opinion on this and one I don't share. I think there's great value in this archaeological dig. This is the way we find rare items and evidence of the past that has often been lost to time. Just because this isn't Carthage or some other ancient site doesn't mean...

    Toronto The One | 308.6m | 85s | Tridel | Foster + Partners

Exactly. Calling people out on their refusal to accept facts isn't bashing. Calling them idiots for doing that would absolutely be. I don't think users who are fanning the flames of conspiracy theories and hysterics about The One are stupid. Not only is that an unfair opinion to hold of people...

Seriously, the ridiculous ideas and opinions that come out the woodwork every time this thread gets bumped are hilarious and depressingly pathetic at the same time.

Being philosophical about complex solutions doesn't make your post any less fantastical. Like @innsertnamehere said, keep it in the fantasy thread.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I could be misunderstanding him but I think he might mean the "liberal" plan, as in the most liberal spending. Implying this plan is the highest spending and best service plan we could have expected and that more conservative plans would have resulted in no service improvements or even cuts. As...

    Toronto Adagio | 85m | 26s | Menkes | Giannone Petricone

I was considering name-dropping all the transit projects I could think of but I can't tell how many times I've seen a discussion of these projects turn into a slapfight about how "that's not rapid transit!" or "well yeah, its underground but its not really! a subway." Calling out the...

    Toronto Adagio | 85m | 26s | Menkes | Giannone Petricone

You're referring to the 2nd Ave. subway no? The 3 stop stubway that's costing $4.5 billion? The stubway that'll have virtually no effect on reducing traffic on the Lexington IRT until it's extended 13 more stops, at the cost of $17 billion? The subway that was planned back in 1919 and is the...

    Toronto King-Bathurst Transit Oriented Community: South Site | 88.9m | 25s | Infrastructure ON | SvN

I can't tell from the rendering but is anything more than a small part of the face of the current building (the part directly on King) saved? I'm sure the facade on Bathurst could be nice with modern brick but ehhhh.

    Toronto King-Bathurst Transit Oriented Community: South Site | 88.9m | 25s | Infrastructure ON | SvN

Ugh I have a bad feeling about this... What's next for this corner? The Wheat Sheaf being facadicized? It's bad enough as is we lost this beauty on the northwest corner...

    Toronto TOOR Hotel / The 203 Residences on Jarvis | 108.2m | 32s | Manga | Arcadis

Seriously... Is it possible that the developer purchased the land these buildings were on to decrease the density of the proposed tower without necessarily aiming to demolish/facadicize these buildings? Cuz I can live with that.

Why hasn't this user been banned in fact? I just checked and all three of their posts have been in this thread and have never been about Trump Tower, just a lazy trolling.

I know advocating for new streetcar lines is usually a non-starter in Toronto but, if we're going to build 40 storey buildings this far from the subway and in an area that's already got heavy transit usage, then streetcars with proper dedicated lanes (drivers be damned lol) would be ideal here...
