    Union Station: Northwest PATH Expansion

I'm seriously at a loss here. What construction, exactly, even needs to be done, really? How many metres is it from the current NW PATH into the parking garage? And the parking garage already has a door into the PATH at 145 King St W, I guess they're building a second exit into 55 University as...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

Haha, I don't think so. But in all seriousness, I really think fare payment will be EXCELLENT on the TTC by the end of the year. Firstly, the presto card is an excellent solution for the large majority of people who use transit more than once or twice in a decade. Even tourists, if they ride...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

This is only a temporary issue. Once limited use media rolls out later this year, people will use the large presto vending machine to buy single use paper presto cards; from what I understand, those machines accept both bills and coins and give change, as well as accepting both tap and insert...

That would mean it still had free space roughly equivalent to the entire capacity of 407's lot.

TTC: Automatic Train Control and Subway Platform Screen Doors

I believe it will be decommissioned, at a minimum shut off if not physically removed. I recall the TTC mentioning that they have plans to make work cars function with ATC. The only non-line-1 trains that need to be moved on Line 1 are the Sheppard trains, which were converted to TRs for that...

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

Indeed. For the very small visually impaired community, it seems like it would be easier just to pull up the presto page on one's phone or computer and check the balance there, or visit a self-serve kiosk in the station, to get an audible balance that way, rather than fumble with headphones and...

Depends what you mean by BRT. If you mean full BRT, completely grade separated, then I strongly doubt it, and at any rate that would be unjustified from Major Mack. If you mean partial BRT, like Viva Rapidways (or BRT lite, just regular Viva service) then yes, absolutely, it would have been...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Fun fact: since the midday Barrie Line schedules came into effect on January 2nd 2018, midday trains have not run north of Maple as scheduled on ANY out of 5 Mondays, and on 5 out of 6 Thursdays, due to freight train traffic.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Haha, you probably mean me! I'm quite shocked at the extent of that delay, I thought last week or so of June and that they'd move heaven and earth to open it for Canada Day 2018. Apparently not possible. Their eastern stations are making excellent progress, and trains are coming along great...

    King Street (Streetcar Transit Priority)

That's absolutely not going to happen within at least the next 20 years.

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

407 tolls will match the pace of what people are willing to pay to use the 407. It's a simple equation. Toll Rate X Number of Vehicles = Income. As you raise the tolls, # of vehicles drops; as you lower the tolls, # of vehicles rises. They will keep raising the tolls and watching how many...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

This is off-topic but all three parties were planning to cancel the plants in question. I hate seeing this ridiculous point brought up by people as if the PCs or NDP wouldn't have done it.

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

I know a lot of people on this forum and elsewhere are extremely skeptical of this, but I sincerely believe self-driving cars are the solution to the problem of Toronto's suburbs' transit. Traditional mass transit in the form of larger buses, streetcars, LRT, subway, and heavy rail will, I...

I agree, let's have people drive all the way downtown instead! It's so much better to have them causing congestion and spewing pollutants into our air all the way downtown, and cause congestion that cripples TTC surface routes! That's so much better!

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Eh, there's the 512 to the Yonge subway. I could see the logic in just telling people to take that, provided they allocate a few extra streetcars up there for the weekend, even 1 or 2 flexities short turning SC-SCW only would be plenty.

    Toronto Lower Simcoe Ramp | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto

How about all of the times I'm riding southbound on Spadina and the streetcar says "To Spadina Station" when southbound cars can only be heading to King St, Queen's Quay, or Union station? Lots of TTC operators are extremely negligent in setting their destination signs correctly.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I'm sure there are staff washrooms, and in an emergency they certainly should let you use them, both for general human decency and for human rights code reasons, but I've heard of TTC staff refusing to let people use them elsewhere. Not sure if the building code requires public washrooms there...

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

I've had the same concern about Downsview Park - the TTC has been awful at operating service properly north of St Clair West, especially into the extension. Cumulative 20-30 minute waits for a train that actually goes up are quite common, and that train when it finally arrives normally crawls...

These systems are expensive and they require maintenance. Naturally, if they were more cost effective/reliable than snowplows, they would be in widespread use.
