    SmartTrack (Proposed)

It’s one thing to pick and choose stations based on cost vs ridership return but if King Liberty got dropped merely because the city couldn’t admit it was going to have to invent a budget line to build roads in midtown, folks in that area might justifiably be ticked about that

    SmartTrack (Proposed)

I did wonder if some Finch-Kennedy costs (which will benefit car drivers) were assigned to the grade sep. There was reference to the station having an integrated design with the separation, which makes sense, but my recollection is that the only rail Sheppard East LRT project paid for is the...

Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

If you are building gigawatts of new capacity but integrated into a trans-border grid, this would seem an unwise position to take if you want to be seen as a reliable partner over multi-decade time horizons...

    VIA Rail

But Woodstock, Brantford, Ingersoll are solely dependent on VIA, where the above mentioned cities also have GO service. If there is a notion to have medium intercity frequency service which will compete with Metrolinx for passengers, platforms and track slots between Union and Kitchener, I...

    VIA Rail

Because VIA are a tenant, and can only rely on retaining what their existing agreements allow them have. I haven't read those agreements but given recent history I doubt VIA have needed more than 3 slots/direction/day in recent years.

    General railway discussions

There is plenty of context out there if you are willing to go and do the reading about high speed rail in NYS, rather than throw out your wild suggestions and require others to fact check it for you.

    VIA Rail

What do you think the chances are of VIA buying track for 110mph and then have Metrolinx and CN telling them they can have 2-3 slots (between Kitchener and Union) per direction, per day, tops? The thing about the Kitchener-London trackage (other than Doug Ford complicating things with his...

Bruce Power: New Nuclear Generation Capacity

It's a shame that Nanticoke nuclear didn't start construction when the coal plant was killed - we could have been a lot further ahead now. It is fair to say some of the growth in things like data centers could not be anticipated, and of course there was ideological opposition. Being able to send...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

ah - I see now that the other platform does not have a green/red mixed stripe. That does ring a bell now that I think about it.

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

There is certainly an intention. Possibly just a lack of funding, or a decision that other projects are soaking up the capacity of companies which might bid on it https://www.metrolinx.com/en/projects-and-programs/barrie-line-go-expansion/studies/mcnaughton-road-grade-separation

TTC: Electric and alternative fuel buses

I was thinking of something more akin to how OPP provides local policing services in places like County of Wellington.

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | Arcadis

It's not just signalling in the underground section, it's also automated operation. So that increases the degree of difficulty substantially.

    Orangeville-Brampton Railway (OBRY)

Difficult when CP are retaining the last stretch of track into Streetsville - if they abandoned that, it would be an interesting potential cross transfer for Milton folks working in central Brampton, but not really compelling without Milton 2WAD. Expensive to go under the CN *and* the new...

    VIA Rail

Point taken. That said, given the relationship of energy and velocity, nudging a bit over 80 here and there is a bit different to long stretches of 95-100mph, or more. While the current GO situation is not great, hopefully the deployment of ETCS will provide more protection against that...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

I assume the track (right-most) with no platform at Scarb Junction is an accidental omission?

TTC: Electric and alternative fuel buses

do you have a cite for that? I hadn't heard of any municipality outsourcing operations and fleet to MTO/Metrolinx.

    VIA Rail

I was surprised that cabs were signed off as full length passenger spec in a new build consist. The one thing about having a cab which has no or limited seating is that it does provide more buffer in the event of a collision, particularly when sharing track with freight locomotives with limited...
