Honestly just adding express and collector lanes from 409 to 427 would solve the largest bottle neck on the 401. And there is enough space for 12 lanes. Anything else I would see as a waste. Ontario highways or so wide, because the province focuses on capacity and not on network connectivity.

I would expect with metrolinx new direction of using less tunneling with the yonge extension and ontario line, that Sheppard would be mostly elevated. And looking at the davenport grade separation heavy rail elevation can be done in an urban and attractive way.

I dont understand why Ontario highway design uses so much land. Like in the US and Europe highways are minimized as much as possible to limit the damage. The MTO seems to have the mentality of, how do we make this highway a big as possible. Highways should be safe but made as small as possible.
