last pics of "World's Biggest Bookstore"

Thanks for posting these, I'm feeling nostalgic already!

    Toronto River City Condos Phase 3 | 99.66m | 29s | Urban Capital | Saucier + Perrotte

That music gives me the creeps, kinda like a Cronenberg movie.

I agree with most of what's been said, but RiverCity1, I can't help but comment on the reason why some countries aren't doing well right now. It's not the Welfare State countries as a group that are failing (Britain, Germany and Sweden, amongst others, are doing relatively fine); and those that...

    Toronto 2024 Olympic Bid (Dead)

They have actually put that right up there on their flag ;)

    Toronto Forma | 308m | 84s | Great Gulf | Gehry Partners

Adma, I'm with you here, I'm on the "preservationist" side (even though I still love Gehry's design), but please stop with the name calling, and it's pretty clear that people here have made up their mind about this issue, so I don't think there's any point in rehashing the same arguments over...

    Favourite Cities?

It must be different after the crash, but I spent 4 months in Madrid in 2003 and I keep wanting to go back, it was probably one of the densest and more vibrant cities I've been to (after NYC), also really beautiful. The people are kind of loud and sometimes rude, but my family is from Spain so...

    Cabbagetown

Not that I like the current situation either, but I have to say it WOULD be a problem for them. All these shelters close together makes it easier for them to go to another one if the first one is full or seems particularly dangerous that night.

It's a shame, this is such a handsome building.

    Wow, tough competition

    Roads: Gardiner Expressway

I'm rooting for "remove" (cheapest and most beautiful option), but I hope they add active uses to the north side, like a library or a gym or a supermarket, anything that will bring people to this area and help connect a little bit more both sides of the rail corridor.

    Toronto 2015 Pan American Games

Regarding the "diversity certification" issue, it surprises me to see people complain about how the same clique always gets all the contracts, always the same boy's club getting all of the cake. "Elitism!", they will yell while electing a rich, spoiled brat as mayor. Well, here's a measure...

Toronto SQ Spadina Queen Condos at Alexandra Park | 43.89m | 14s | Tridel | Teeple Architects

The design here is good, amazing actually, but I don't like the way they use spandrel, it looks so cheap (probably nothing to do with cost, but it doesn't look... elegant). I've seen promising designs by Tridel that end up looking horrible in real life. That's what I fear will happen with this.

Ugh, I wish Tridel would just stop building stuff.

    Toronto Twenty Condos | 21.64m | 7s | Streetcar | TACT Architecture

Gotta love Streetcar, in fact I'm living in one of their buildings right now (although I'm moving in a couple of months, to a house pretty close to this new development in fact). Any other developer would have built a big, hulking, uniform mass, and I think it's great the way the variations in...

Roads: Front Street East finally getting repaved

I guess it's finally happening, the north side sidewalks from Parliament to Sherbourne are a war zone now (but hopefully it'll be worth it)
