Absolutely agreed. In particular, at the southern terminus of the pier, which will naturally be the anchor of this space. It’s really the northern half of P1 that houses the vaults, and we definitely don’t need the whole footprint for storing mulch, etc. So this is definitely an option we’re...

    Toronto Spadina Pier Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto

This is precisely the investigative work and strategizing we’re doing right now, so I’ll have to come back to you in a few months with more precise details! But I can tell you that our emerging approach at this stage, below grade, is to potentially fill P2 with clean shale sourced from...

Two levels, in fact. 300 spaces. Managed by Harbourfront Centre since it was built in the 1980’s. But the entire P2 level has been closed since flooding damage from high lake levels. And a recent condition assessment estimated the cost of a needed SOGR overhaul at up to $20M to keep the parking...

    Toronto Spadina Pier Revitalization | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto

Shifting focus slightly east to planning work actively underway at Spadina Pier: An important milestone this week as local stakeholders were advised of the permanent closure of the derelict parking garage beneath this property. While our July 2022 City Council-approved work plan for this site...

Our Conservation Plan, developed with ERA Architects, landed on this ‘interim’, marine-grade plywood treatment for the windows. The focus of this rehab strategy is about 80% on completing critically needed exterior repairs, and about 20% on enabling investments that help set the stage for future...

Exactly right. We intend to launch a RFP process for the rooftop ‘head houses’ late next year. The strategy has also been to wait until the site’s revitalization is nearer to completion so that a) we can leverage this $50M investment to find the right partner; but also b) so that the silo RFP...

Thanks for this. I actually managed this project at its inception (10 years ago) but have still never been to see it fully built out. Photo below from 2013 is notice of this development’s concurrent variances, severance and OPA/ZBA applications. Curious to know what local reaction has been.

Toronto Bathurst Quay Revitalization | ?m | 2s | City of Toronto | Kearns Mancini

For anyone interested in attending, the City is hosting a ground-breaking ceremony on Wednesday, June 21, 9:30am, to mark the start of construction on “Bathurst Quay Common”, which I’m able to now share is officially the name for this new waterfront park. This also marks the start of the third...

    2023 Toronto Mayoral by-election

Personally, I don’t expect this to happen. Hard to believe, but the start of the 2026 municipal election campaign is less than 3 years away. And it’s reasonable to assume a number of the unsuccessful Mayoral candidates will leverage their profile from this race to run again in 2026. Or at...

It’s also possible these markings are just part of a general utility locate for work happening nearby. I know in the past I’ve given locate companies specific instructions not to mark up an area of completed construction on the same property, but this is often the result.

Demo update. Already about 75% done. Reminder this walkway won’t be open to the public until the new park on the west side of the silos is completed and open next year. But even from outside the site you can already make the visual connection through from either side. Very cool to see trees...

    Toronto Love Park | 3m | 1s | City of Toronto | CCxA

I have no involvement on Love Park, so don’t have all the details on this. But I do know that the Waterfront BIA has agreed to take on management of the moveable furniture. I believe they will trial having a team lock up the furniture at night, and set it up again each morning. Again, don’t...

Yes, you’re correct about the canopy. All that’s really left for the Corleck’s exterior is glazing and doors, which are being fabricated now and are scheduled to start installation this Fall. The new windows match the original small pane design and are going to look amazing. Sharing a link...

This is very well said. What a unique experience to find forms, shapes, volumes, shadows, textures, etc. like these in a waterfront park set against the Toronto skyline. It's been a central philosophy of this entire project to just let the silos be what they are!
