    Premier Doug Ford's Ontario

Regardless of the media, the test that the courts will apply will always be 'reasonable expectation of privacy'. A note, record, report, etc. required by employment can be considered 'compelled' and anyone conducting a criminal investigation who doesn't obtain judicial authorization ('warrant')...

    LCBO / The Beer Store

This really sounds like throwing the Beer Store a bone for all the business they're going to lose.

Nope; the Charter allows it. It also allows you to refuse to be interviewed. The Charter might have something to say about that as well.

    PM Justin Trudeau's Canada

I really can't get into an economics policy debate since I am virtually unarmed, but I'm not sure, if you drill down, that many people who propose that all income, whether it be earned, interest, dividends or capital gains, treated the same, really don't. They simply want income that they don't...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Passenger rail will obviously have no impact of freight movement. Highway closures, caused by either a collision or weather, while disruptive to those caught up in it, won't impact the economy, in the same way a rail blockage for a day or two doesn't. The chaos in the video clip you posted...

Exactly. That's why we walked away before her parents passed. It wasn't really a big deal for me - I never grew up with a cottage and viewed them as just another place to look after. A pre-estate transfer is one way but can still have tax implications since the gains are 'crystalized' at the...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

The current 'set fine' is $310 plus court fees (plus demerit points) for speed limiter violations. Not sure I would call that huge. Per the HTA, the fine range is $250 -$20K, but when do ever see anything approaching a maximum penalty.

Nope. As others have mentioned, a principle residence is exempt. Other real property such as a cottage are not. Bit of a class warfare statement don't you think? I know several people who have summer cottages I can testify that none of them are Scrooge McDucks giggling on their pile of gold...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

This looks to be within the limits of a construction zone. If true, a lot of the rules surrounding CMVs are suspended, but I would think site supervision shares the blame. It likely wouldn't apply in this situation, but if having the box raised at a jobsite is required, there should be a way...

You're right. Perhaps I have been misunderstanding you all along, and perhaps I am the only one . . . but I suspect not. And perhaps they will be, in time. 2026 is a long way out. The little point in saying anything that is still in discussion.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Really. Tell us more. I always thought it was established after WWI to rescue a bunch of failing railways. Back then, freight and passenger railways was a distinction that didn't exist.

It was offshore at Normandy for the ceremony last week. Calling it a "warship" is a bit of a stretch but, sure.

Once more unto the breach . . . I thought you were talking about the shelter stops. I would suspect NB and Timmins will have those. NB might already have taxi reference information (I've never walked around it) and would likely have transit information if they return. I'll betcha taxis will...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

If it was up to CN alone, the run between Mont-Joli and Moncton would have been abandoned years ago.

I used to drive for a ground transportation company at Pearson. I don't recall any wayfinding signage that posted specific identified companies; just "ground transportation", "out-of-town vans", "taxis", rentals, etc. Companies are identified at the actual dispatch/check-n counter, but they...

You mean like a bulletin board at the station? I have an even easier solution. Send an email or press release that says 'we're installing a bulletin board at each station stop - you are invited to post you schedule or phone number there'. Done. Folks could post bake sales and yard sales too...

Explain to us how that would work. A tender, RFP, "call", etc. is for something the issuer intends to pay for. Some, not all, municipalities issue taxi licences, but they are permissions to operate a business in the municipality (if there is no taxi bylaw, they might need a business licence...

Yes it does, in para 3. The Public Vehicles Act and the Ontario Highway Transportation Board Act (the folks who managed inter-community bus transport) were both repealed Also clearly stated here: "Intercommunity service providers do not require a public vehicle operating licence. This...

    Keir Starmers' United Kingdom

UK politics has been a weird place for the past several years (maybe longer - I don't follow it that closely). Regardless of party, they seem to go from one level of questionable decision-making to the next. At least in Canada, the leaders we elect take a while to go sour; over there they seem...

With talk of transit and other urban-like amenities in places like Washago, South River and Temagami, others might think the same.
