GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

A station promise which has evolved into maybe a station, eventually, one day.

    TTC: Streetcar Network

The water main work is done, I believe, but the schedules were heavily padded to account for the construction delays and will only be fixed in the next revision.

It seems like there's a better case for integrating it with the LSE. It would arguably be the best way to the airport from every LSE station. Of course then unless you want to run trains every 7.5 minutes on the LSE, you lose the LSE-LSW connection. This is going to be a problem for the whole...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

I don't think I quite understand your point. We have two LRT lines currently under construction, both of which will move significantly more people than the buses they replace. We have two subway projects in planning, and maybe you (like me) don't believe they will actually be shovel-ready by the...

    TTC: Streetcar Network

We also started the Crosstown project before the last subway extension finished. It's important that something else is ready to break ground when Eglinton and Finch are done, but Toronto's problem in recent years hasn't actually been building rapid transit lines, it's funding adequate service...

Sure, but how many of the people who made that decision are still around today? And how many of them are likely to still be around when (if?) the line is electrified and new stations are open at King, St Clair, and Woodbine? At some point they will have to buy new train sets and make decisions...

Except that I've seen those buses many times on mainline routes. Presumably as an emergency backup for a failed vehicle, but still. You can wrap the trains and give the line a name like GO Union-Pearson line without maintaining an entirely separate brand, independent from GO transit.

Luggage racks are a feature, not a brand. You can put luggage racks on a GO branded train that services Pearson. The TTC puts luggage racks (and bus wraps) on the 900, but it's otherwise just another express bus route.

Sorry, you're correct. I'm thinking of Union.

3 car consists are supposed to be the standard, but my understanding is the cars have reliability issues. The service is also limited at Pearson where the station can only hold one train at a time and has limitations on length even if all the doors weren't being used. Hopefully the theoretical...

I'd love to see that modeled out. Add the stops at King, St Clair, Eglinton, and maybe Islington, and build the connection at Bloor/Dundas West. Charge TTC fare but double-fare for Pearson (like the buses that cross into other regions) and run trains with the capacity to comfortably carry enough...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

An underground loop would be extremely expensive, and I think the opportunity to consider that ends if it's not a part of the Choice redevelopment, since that's the best opportunity to widen the street to fit a portal. Building a loop into the ground floor of a building would not solve the...

Dundas West/ Bloor Mobility Hub +interconnected hub network (Metrolinx)

That's ultimately a TTC decision and not Metrolinx. Anything is possible, especially since they may need to do something to deal with the limits of the current loop and the Flexities, but it doesn't seem like it's a priority for them right now. There are also a number of proposed redevelopments...

It also has overhead. Costs for separate PRESTO infrastructure, different logos, colour schemes, staff uniforms, etc. If demand modelling shows that limiting stops increases use then sure, go for it, but you could just call it an express GO train to the airport. But we should set service to...

    Toronto 611 Keele | 115.35m | 33s | Diamond Corp | a—A

I know this is a pretty suburban area, but self-storage right along the streetcar route and next to the proposed GO station? That's disappointing. Not going to do much to make that intersection more friendly.

If we reach a point where we're servicing the Kitchener line with EMUs on 15 minute intervals to both Pearson and Bramalea, do we really need special branding for one of those services at all?
  17. T

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Or it's because they see Pearson as a much more useful destination than Bramalea or Kitchener.

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

That didn't stop them on King.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Toronto isn't actually spending 2 billion on electrification, but even that aside, I don't think that press releases about tiny hydrogen planes in California or conceptual hydrogen trains in Europe which will only be actually read by 5 forum users, none of whom likely have any influence over...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

You realize the 'O' in DBFOM stands for "operate" right? Of course that factors into the equation. But also, it's not like the bidder just dictates what the service levels will be.
