Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

I wish I had your optimism. I feel that cutting the LDS will have no affect on his seat count before and after. So, that says to me that when it is time for him to balance the books, this may be one thing that goes. Just look at the things Harper did to balance the budget. Since PP was in...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Think of all the subway and LRT done in the province for the last 2 decades. None of it would have happened without federal funding. Allowing the federal government to fund public transit without being in charge of it is a good way to get what we need. Take that $600k and put it to another use...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

It is not a responsibility, but if we look across Canada, most major transit projects have been partially funded by the federal government for decades.

Only Thunder Bay and North Bay have pubic transit to other airports in Northern ON. Timmins, SSM and Sudbury do not. Agreed.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Is there another recent thing that would be as farfetched as this?

It was about the affect. For instance, will the trains run by GO and Via that are not CN or CPKC staffed still be able to run even though those staff are on strike and not working.

When I asked,I did ask about both GO and Via. I do know that Milton line uses the CPKC tracks. The rest either use CN or Metrolinx.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

All that you listed is what I meant in that 'reconciliation'. They can use it as a tool to get what they feel they need for their people. Oh, I know. What is annoying is that we are seeing much the same thing with Via's LDF. It almost happened with the Corridor too, but the new trains are...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

I feel you and I have similar sentiments, but I am more hopeful. TBH, I have my doubts it actually will run, and stay running for more than 10 years.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Thinking about the LRT more, over on the Ontario Northland forum about the return of the Northlander to Timmins and it being 8km away from the downtown core, maybe the solution to that connection would be an LRT line down Highway 101. It most likely could even be a single track the whole way...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

The only other way the FN could push for it is if they make it about reconciliation and have the governments pay for it. Locally, the ceased operations due to a war taking all the materials away from their maintenance. Postwar, everyone saw the Autobahn and wanted that. So, they were ignored...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Absolutely. The question is whether the FN along the route want to do anything with it.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

With the loss of the corridor due to FN wanting the land back,t his was only a matter of time.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

There was a time where across Canada many smaller cities and towns had some sort of streetcar/interurban system. In Northern ON, Thunder Bay SSM and Sudbury all had one. While I am doubtful it will go anywhere, it does give me hope that we might be at a turning point that will mean that smaller...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Taxes in Alberta? hat is a good way to never win an election. You are right though. That is very interesting. It then will shut down all arguments against something like that across the country, if it gets built.

The biggest issues are going to be the supply chain problems and the associated inflation. No matter how JT acts, this is going to sink them even lower. Do nothing, and people ill be even more upset about the high inflation and trouble getting anything. Do back to work legislation, and you just...

    VIA Rail

I distinctly remember passing through the border as a young adult with just my birth certificate. Never did show them my drivers license. It was land crossing in Detroit/Windsor while driving my car.

As someone who lived in Halifax and rode their transit.... Scotia Square is their main terminal downtown. , It is 30 km from the airport. The closest terminal in the area is the Cobequid Terminal, in Sackville. That is still 20km away. The bus does come from the Scotia Square and has been...

https://www.timmins.ca/our_services/timmins_transit/maps_schedules/16_s_porcupine_porcupine This one runs at 630 am and gets to the area around 657. Add one bus at 5 am ish, and you can get the 510 arrival. Also, they state they are running on a Saturday schedule until further notice. That may...
