Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

East bound, they should have used the existing 3858. Westbound , they should have used 3977. That would mean that the train would get into Union at 0814 and leave at 1749. That would give commuters who work a regular schedule an opportunity to use it and for the pilot to actually show whether it...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

From your posting, this is not shocking to me. TBH,I know I am not someone who should be held as an expert about what routes should exist or be added. If they came to my house and wanted to do what I think is best, I would ask myself how desperate they have become.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

It is unfortunate how disconnected things are, even when they look connected. Maybe some sort of 'code share' like air carriers is needed.

It may have also been the fact that CN saw the ACR as a money losing venture that they wanted it sold off.

If all it took was a measly $2 million from the federal government and the rest came from fares, that seems odd that it would have lost the funding.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

We have identified the problems. We have not identified any real solutions. So, it is status quo. I have dreams of not needing a car to get from any major city in the country to any major city in the country by rail. To do that, we do need to start somewhere. To start, we need funding. We have...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

What I mean is that they cannot grow from what they are outside of what they currently do where they serve. For example, you are not going to see a tourist train along the Corridor, or you are not going to see a simple intercity train more frequent than 3x a week on the prairies. If Via survives...

As I understand it, the can until they hit Ottawa. That is where it can be late.

Thank you for sending me down that rabbit hole. https://www.saultstar.com/news/sault-passenger-rail-advocates-still-chugging-along-in-search-of-funding-to-restart-train https://www.railcan.ca/news/canadas-railways-announce-new-parliamentary-rail-caucus/ This is a project that could be funded...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

My family Dr also has silly hours. That is because she also is at the hospital the rest of the time. There was a time I would argue tooth and nail to keep Via as is. The more I learn about how they operate and the restrictions placed on them, the more I feel they cannot exist and provide good...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

I noticed the new Siemens coaches have a commuter seat feel. The service quality is the difference. Name me one place of employment in which starts later than 9am and finishes before 5pm. I honestly cannot think of a single thing. Can you provide a link to the actual document? As I have...

That is something I was not aware of. Thank you for helping me learn more.

There were a dedicated group that pushed to have the Northlander return. I am just wondering if once it returns if that is it. If it is, then it is, but if not, I'd like to hear what may be in the works, if it is publicly available. I know many here would rather that even the Northlander not return.

I do not disagree about adding bus service.

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

Considering that part of the line is not on ONR tracks, I look where there is potential ridership. Here are my thoughts: 1) A Toronto -Sudbury line. It could even use the Mactier sub south of where the one way directional agreement with CN and CP are. 2) A SSM - Sudbury = North Bay line. It...

    Ontario Northland/Northern Ontario Transportation

In the spirit of this thread, for those of us who are happy the Northlander is returning, once it returns, is that it? Have we solved all the transportation problems in Northern ON? Once the return of the Northlander is seen as a success, what next? I have my own thoughts, but I'd like to hear...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Ideally yes, but the problem is, currently, the one provider is not focused on intercity. When the Northlander returns, maybe they can see how intercity may be worth doing on their own.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

If a federal government service you do not use gets cut do you care? Anything outside of the Corridor could be cut and no votes would be lost over it. Especially true of a CPC government. The existing Corridor routes are safe because they have a new fleet and are profitable. I want to believe...

    General railway discussions

If thati s the case, Via and GO should be ok for any CN routes.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

My fear is the same conversations will be had that happened in the 1990s for those cuts.Although I feel that the main driver was political, there were many reasons what got cut was cut. The felt they had to cut to lower the operating deficit of Via. They were successful. If they decide not to...
