Could they instead have only pick ups one way and one side and drop offs the other side? For example Chicago-> Toronto, train only picks up on the USA side and only drops off on the Canada side. For Toronto -> Chicago, it only picks up on the Canada side and only drops off on the USA side? Then...

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Thank you for that. I really thought it wouldn't be open. Sounds like a visit in the winter is what I need to do.

Sheppard Line 4 Subway Extension (Proposed)

Has that always been the case? For some reason, I thought it was like how Canada's Wonderland was where they are closed more of the winter.

Not really. Hence it being a weird idea. Would be nice if they did. I would ask, why waste the time and effort on doing one train as a heritage unit? Many railways are doing it. It seems like the thing to do. CN, CP and ONR have all done it. There may be others that have too. I don't get it...

.... I know you are joking, but that all exists on the train....

True, it can happen at any time, but the likelihood is much lower of it happening till it is much lower. If we assume that there are going to be more trains that is ever needed to run all routes, then it could be assumed that they could have those spares of each livery. I know it was a silly...

That is a possibility, but not likely to happen for a few decades.

If the livery is a vinyl wrap, then if a door gets replaced, the wrap could also be replaced. They could even have all replacement parts be a plain colour.

    VIA Rail

Would that be a bug, or a feature? For a traveler, they know they are on the right train because of the colours, unless it is a borrowed train from another part of the system. For a rail fan, they would scream over seeing something on a line they don't normally see.

Call me weird, but, instead of bringing back old liveries, why not have each route a different livery all together. So, for instance, any Montreal-Toronto train will have a different livery than the Toronto - Windsor trains.

Further to the idea of the Fredericton - Saint John - Halifax route, if the government gave Via oodles of money to expand, and if this was a route Via wanted to expand to, it would be reasonable to think that they would add the Saint John - Halifax section first with a plan of adding the rest if...

Some of the cut routes are easy to put back. Others would be near impossible to run again. Using the route being discussed as an example, a Saint John - Halifax route could be put back fairly quickly. The track are still there at least.

While it would be nice to see more than what is needed plus a few spares, it is still a good thing to see the entire fleet be replaced. Hopefully the contract will include the option to purchase more.

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Seems that we may see the LDR last. My thinking is if the contract is signed before the drop of the writ there is a chance the LDS will last the next election.

This is a good start. I will be more happy when the contract gets awarded. Then there is a chance the routes survive the next election.

I won't knock the heritage schemes companies have been doing to their new equipment, but, at least for me, it does nothing for me. Funny thing is, the only heritage thing that did anything for me was the local transit bus...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

Those long commutes are a sing of a much bigger problem that no government wants to seriously fix. That is a case of affordable homes. Imagine thinking that for your family, it is cheaper to live in London and commute to Toronto for work. That is what you are seeing. I agree it is crazy, but it...

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

The train should leave after 5pm so that commuters can get from their work to Union in time for it. Twenty minutes on each end is much better than arriving after 9 am and leaving before 5pm

Lack of meaningful Passenger Rail service outside the Quebec-Windsor Corridor

There is a choice that was made, either you do a proper timing into and out of Union to test whether it is warranted, or not. No argument that an 8 hour train ride is bad, but this was not about the train ride, it was about the timing of the train in and out of Union so that people who work...
