    Toronto Bike Share

Ha ha ha! I poked around the blog that started this thread and found this: http://www.theurbancountry.com/2010/02/toronto-set-to-axe-bike-sharing_17.html "Sources are telling us that someone in the City Manager’s office feels bike sharing is useless and a waste of money... A public tender was...

    Toronto Bike Share

No more word on this? I just spent the past few days in Montreal and spent one of my days using Bixi there (it was too cold or wet to ride the other days). It was fantastic. I saw more of Montreal on that day than I ever have on any other trip. It's easy to use--for visitors, you use your...

    Toronto Canoe Landing Park | ?m | ?s | Concord Adex

I said government, not politics, and by government, I mean both the bureaucracy and the ruling party, by whose principles the bureaucracy tends more or less to function. In this case, the red tape that obstructed the opening of the park relected both the grinding ineptitude of the city...

There needs to be a law against architects putting trees twenty stories up in their renders. This ain't Babylon.

Everything wrong with current city and provincial government is encapsulated here. I hate conservatives, but you can way one thing for them: they get things done.

Toronto Panorama at Concord CityPlace | 96.01m | 28s | Concord Adex | BDP Quadrangle

I thought the black panels and mullions looked terrible when the building was going up, but now that they're clean and you can see them in context they look much better. It's hard to tell in the pics, but in person it's really quite elegant; let's hope the building is well maintained.

This building is beautiful. Are they really going to paint all that concrete? This is the one instance where it doesn't need it.

Toronto Panorama at Concord CityPlace | 96.01m | 28s | Concord Adex | BDP Quadrangle

Took some shots of Panorama tonight. IMHO the building is spectacular. I hated the townhouses when they were going up, but they look gorgeous now. The weird little light garden somehow works, though the use of asphalt rather than pavers is unfortunate. Coming out of Canoe Park, it's interesting...

    Toronto Canoe Landing Park | ?m | ?s | Concord Adex

I went to the park this evening. There were quite a few people using it, including an aerobics class. The park is interesting, but as with all things Toronto, there's a distinct sense it could have been better. Pluses: the canoe, the skittles, the hill, the beyond spectacular views of the city...

    Toronto Theatre Park | 156.96m | 47s | Lamb Dev Corp | a—A

If King and Simcoe can't be hyperurban, where can? This development is a lot more respectful of "context" than everyone's beloved Casa, with it's hideous blocky podium. As for streets not taking up space, do the math. Consider this figure: Say it's a portion of city block 50m per side, 2500...

Toronto is not and never will be a European city. In Europe, urban neighbourhoods consists of warrens of narrow streets left over from earlier eras, ploughed through here and there by grand boulevards ordered by autocratic planners. In that context, five and six stories perfectly appropriate. In...

Then cap taxes in this district as was done for Queen. Here's what Vaughan said about redeveloping Duke's Cycle etc. courtesy Glen from the Duke's thread: http://www.toronto.ca/legdocs/mmis/2009/ex/bgrd/backgroundfile-22235.pdf Otherwise, the city should get out of the way! This building is...

Architecture and urban design don't get much better in this city than the current proposal. If Councillor Vaughan is so concerned about heritage, then he should push for better municipal conservation laws--including measures that reward property owners for maintaining their buildings and protect...

    Duke's Cycle (623-625 Queen St. W, Form, 3s)

Building 1 from the above graphic was rehabilitated and now houses an electronics store. Building 8 was also saved and Pizzaiolo has returned. The rest was bulldozed, but the lot never cleared; I'm surprised there hasn't been a rash of tetanus in the neighbourhood. I confess to a slight touch...
