    Church-Wellesley Village

I can appreciate the small business owner trying to make it in a competitive market but people ragging on Loblaws' on a regular basis is a little bit rich. Does Loblaw's have an aisle devoted to rainbow flags and chachkis? It certainly has half an aisle developed to overpriced Hallmark cards...

    Church-Wellesley Village

I lived right across from the Red Lion and we used to go on rainy days ... until the renovation, which reduced the historic interior (or what was left of it) to basically the same level of taste as the Lebanon Express @ College and Yonge. Blah. That, and I ordered a whiskey sour and ... my...

Hopefully that'll liven up this dank section of the street!

Why more skyscrapers than "Avenue" style building proposals?

Honestly ... it all comes down to demand and profit margins. More units (whether it be through added or increased height and/or density) = more money for the developer/investor.

I love this building - but the treatment of the portion running along Jarvis leaves a lot to be desired - it's dark, canyon-esque (as mentioned by others above) and pretty dismal at the moment. I'll wait for everything to be cleaned up to re-evaluate but I did have a negative experience there -...

    Church-Wellesley Village

I'm sure this may have been posted - but, Honey's Beestro off of Jarvis kicked the bucket either late last year (or maybe earlier). Haven't been there since the early summer but we used to go for half price appetizers. It was highly inconsistent and ranged from terrible to (almost) really good...

    Toronto 365 Church Condos | 102.1m | 31s | Menkes | Wallman Architects

I certainly don't think that requiring design measures (such as 45 degree angular plane, transition to established and low-rise development and requiring screening of loading areas through thoughtful site design etc) is ridiculous and unnecessary (to your point of "ignorant generalizations.")...

    Toronto 365 Church Condos | 102.1m | 31s | Menkes | Wallman Architects

Things are certainly getting more expensive. I know first hand, buying into the low rise stock downtown. That being said, the 300 square foot condos that are becoming more common are certainly outrageous. Sure, compact living should be promoted but 300 square feet? Though I love Toronto and...

Yet, we have some good ones - Radio City (where I lived and where the flood plans were both sensible and well proportioned); Chaz and some of the ones you mentioned were certainly better than this. I'd throw in Couture on the "crap list." I especially despise the entire siding in spandrel on...

The hubs went to pick up salads for dinner since he works from home and the place closes at 4. Let me tell you. Two salads of this calibre for under 9$ was an amazing steal. The guy even chopped up extra cucumber and threw in chick peas because we both hate tomatoes.

We need a Fresh in the area. I emailed the head office and apparently they considered it last year but couldn't find a space of a suitable size and character when scouting in the area. So sad!

    Cabbagetown

The food sucks at Stout. But we only go for the cider and move elsewhere. House hasn't been as amazing as it used to be since it was discovered by the rest of TO.The last 5 times, either I or my bf got sick after eating there (...we always get the side spinach salad and we are surmising they...

Anyone been to the Japanese restaurant in the old Hamdi space? I'm also curious about Jam Cafe, but we always end up at Stout (their draught cider is always sparkling nicely) or House (although the last 5 times, it's been bad.. but we've been going there since 05).

    Dufferin & Eglinton

My great aunt had a condo in on of the yellow buildings off of Marlee and I remember spending summer days on the roof top terrace as a kid. It was mostly an Italian neighbourhood then - the grocer up on Marlee south of Lawrence Square and the little sandwich shop closer to Eglinton was the best...

Anyone know if Smoke's is actually opening up on Church? Not that I'm dying for poutine but just curious. Same goes for Yoghurty's. I live just south of Maple Leaf Gardens and with the renovations / closings, it seems like we'll be in for a lot of change into the summer. Hopefully not so many...

I wish Fresh would open up in the Village. I mean ... it'd be packed all day long.

I'm exited about Yoghurty's. Big Johnson's - it looked like a dud. Happy to see it go - hopefully something more pub-y will occupy it's current space. I'm completely shocked that an upscale resto hasn't opened in the village in ages. Frankly I'm still missing Il fornello.
