Should cities start blocking urban sprawl?

"Should Cities Start Blocking Urban Sprawl?" NO. Most people don't want to live in towers.

    Rob Ford's Toronto

ok so you're basically saying that he'll cut everything? Does that really sound reasonable to you?

    Rob Ford's Toronto

Back on topic... We'll see a city more devoted to the basics and more hands off with non-essentials. You could argue that we'll have better garbage pickup, more reliable snow removal, better roads and I'll dare to say a better functioning TTC (though no new expansions). Probably less funding...

Turning Highway 401 Express Lanes into HOV lanes?

"Turning Highway 401 Express Lanes into HOV lanes?" NO I could explain but it really should be self evident why this is a bad idea

    Time To Accelerate Freeway Teardowns?

That's just the province being cheap and downloading whatever they think they can get away with to save money. Downloading is to a large degree independent of whether roads were mostly used by locals or motorists from other cities. The Gardiner is a very efficient way of people coming in on...

Why Is Toronto Aesthetically/Architecturally Boring? Answer Needed!

I'll weigh in: It might have something to do with Toronto's "newness," lack of cultural legacy. The fact that we are young means we haven't yet developed a unique architectural style (at least not one most of us are aware of). You can't take pride and strive to improve and perfect an...

Milton: School bans parents from driving kids to school

Aside from the impracticalities of enforcing this rule, how's such a move even constitutional? I think a certain charter guarantees us the freedom of choice to drive our kids to school if we so choose.

    Wealthiest Neighborhood?

Thanks for the insight! $70,000 seems like a more reasonable average income. Now assuming that about 1/2 of families have two working parents you get an average family income of about $105,000. This is much closer in line with where I thought it should be.

Toronto in decline..... (Back in MY day we had respect!)

Haha funny. No I meant the decline in respect for others, for the community and for ourselves. Thanks for taking me for an idiot.

    Provincial Highway Service Centres

You realize that by "financing" the government merely provided loans. We'll get the money back interest. With credit markets frozen in 2008 either the government financed this or the service centers would have sat empty for a while until credit markets recovered.

Toronto gay pride denied federal funds

My two cents: I'm all for the concept of a pride parade but the execution bothers me a bit. Would a "straight parade" ever get away with some of the public sexuality you see at gay parades? Probably not (or at least I sincerely hope not). Plus another troubling issue for me is that some of...

Toronto in decline..... (Back in MY day we had respect!)

No Toronto is not in decline, although western society (of which Toronto is a part) is in moral decline.

    Wealthiest Neighborhood?

That's it? $58,000?!! I don't even know how you can comfortably raise a family on that income in a city this expensive. And that's the RICHEST in Scarborough. Amazing. Is this pre-tax or after-tax income?

Rob Ford - Why the Supervillian?

... Ok well I'm not sure what people have been mumbling about for the last few pages so let me just answer the original question: Why is Rob Ford made out to be a villain on UT? ANSWER: - Rob Ford is a fiscal conservative while most people on UT are social progressives (Now I don't know for...

    Toronto Maple Leaf Square | 185.92m | 54s | Lanterra | KPMB

Those photos look pretty good. I like the lack tile on light wood combination. It's fresh...I haven't seen that combination too often.

167 College St. (3 Storey Retail)

I really like the old building there. What a shame to lose it

    Prefabricated and modular buildings

Modular housing's pretty ugly in general. I's like to see minimal use of it.

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

Well that took long enough! 3-4 years, seriously. let's get this thing built already :)

String Rail - a low cost, low impact, high speed transport alternative

Honestly I don't trust the engineering on this. Even very slight drooping or wind-induced lateral movement would cause these trains to go flying if they tried travelling at 200km/h on this (let alone 500). The idea might have some credibility at 50km/h speeds for urban transport.
