Best way to stop vehicles parking illegally during rush hour?

I'm going to agree that the best, and maybe only, way to stop vehicles from parking illegally is to make parking legal during rush hour. Fines, boots, and towing will reduce the problem, but never eliminate it. The guy going into starbucks for a coffee will still risk it for a couple minutes...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

If "regular people" can't afford $25 to get to the airport, then I doubt they can afford to fly anywhere from the airport either. Even for a couple going on vacation, the $50 is reasonable for downtown residents, considering a cab would be as much money and not as predictable. And there are...

Zurich, the World's Best Transit City

The interesting thing is that they've squeezed out subways by making trams and buses work very well for short and medium distance trips, and using mainline railway (with limited tunnels through the city centre) for long distance trips. Comparing the whole region to the GTA is ridiculous, since...

DRL routing. Where would you put it?

The biggest obstacle is space. Queen, King, and most other downtown streets are only 20m wide (66'). When you take away room for the structure and two tracks, there isn't enough left for 3 platforms with adequate width. A possible solution is to stack the platforms, but that makes it difficult...

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

Mcdonalds, etc. generates some revenue for the TTC, but does that revenue cover the extra cost of cleaning discarded food from trains and stations, and removal of food-related garbage?

Missing Links in the GO Bus Network

Greyhound already covers the K/W to downtown Toronto route (as does VIA, and soon GO trains), so its nice to have the GO bus serve a different option. Lots of students are going home to the suburbs, and Square One is a good place to connect to local Mississauga/Brampton buses as well as 407...

DRL routing. Where would you put it?

"So who is to say..." The billions of dollars worth of lakefront real estate says that there will be no more landfill, or at least no more building development.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I doubt any GO bus service is actually profitable. Yes, buses can be full, but there is very little turnover along the routes. With the possible exception of some 407 buses.

DRL routing. Where would you put it?

I think his point is that a Front alignment would still be beneficial to King, Queen, etc. Though I would suggest that a Queen alignment is beneficial for Front, and the waterfront will be capably served by its own streetcars/LRT.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

GO already runs 8 buses between 410 and 530 (10 minute average headway) on friday evenings for students going home for the weekend, and more on the fridays before long weekends. But those are mostly serving the campuses, which are a fair distance from the train station in Kitchener.

Will Liberty Village get its much-needed new street?

I was hoping for some accommodation for a future transit service. This whole project seems designed to relieve traffic in liberty village, but it still dumps all the cars onto Strachan (maybe) and Dufferin. Why not also think about relieving the pressure on the King Streetcar? It seems like...

    London Experiments With Shared Streets

It looks like there's a continuous trench with perforated metal cover where the curb would normally be. That trench is a replacement for the curb pooling space. Basically they just put it under the surface. Its a pretty common detail for european streets with low-profile mountable curbs.

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

A big problem here is that the Yonge Subway, Bloor-Yonge Station, Union Station, and the surface streetcar network all need to be 'relieved'. Obviously its a consequence of underinvestment in downtown transit relative to travel demand, and now we're forced to catch up quickly. Knowing that...

    Downtown Rapid Transit Expansion Study

I don't understand the value of having Georgetown and Barrie terminate at Bathurst Yard, then dumping most of their passengers onto the DRL. Why wouldn't they just operate the GO trains through that tunnel? Its like driving down the Gardiner, parking your car at the exit ramp, then catching a...

Exisisting Urban Rail Lines for Subway and LRT Use.

These articles aren't even about bringing more suburbanites into the city. The whole point was to use smaller and faster electric vehicles on the railway network to better serve trips within the city.

Hamilton all day GO Service Confirmed.

I think the station you visited was the Hunter St. Station, which already has 4 rush hour GO trains to Union, and all-day express buses too. The James St. Station is north of downtown, closer to the lake. The nomenclature is confusing, since both stations actually are on James St, but this...

    Extending Hwy 400 South

Its a bit of an exaggeration to say that selling off Allen Road will bring in enough money to pay for a 4 lane road tunnel to carry the 404 downtown. You'd be lucky to cover the property costs for all the vent shafts and a couple exit ramps.

    Union Station Rail Corridor Improvements

This park would need diesel fume vents along its full length for the foreseeable future, which would make for an unpleasant park during rush hours. There are operational problems as well, with the required structure possibly forcing a reduction in tracks through the throat, and conflicting with...

Rail: Ontario-Quebec High Speed Rail Study

These economic comparisons ignore the productivity factor of taking the train. All the time on the train can be productive working time, and time is very valuable to the business types who travel frequently between montreal and toronto. HSR might still take more time than flying, and be more...

TTC: St. Clair Streetcar Right Of Way

I wonder how long that feeling will last though. Eventually people will forget the cost and schedule overruns and simply see the project as built. I think St Clair along with Roncesvalles, Queens Quay, and Cherry St. will become a showcase for modern streetcar/light rail projects, showing a good...
