Jonathan Bernier? They didn't suspect he might be traded after his performance last year?

So I guess the two squares on the left "billboard" scaffolding indicates that it's going to be a big white sign for Uniqlo too? That would give Uniqlo a pretty large street presence on Yonge, much bigger than H&M's.

Wasn't Eaton's already acquired by Sears when they moved upscale and refreshed their stores? Would have been nice if they had been able to stick with that strategy, with retail trends afterwards splitting into high and low ends. Sears instead just continued aiming for the middle class consumer...

St. James Park Revitalization (PMA Landscape Architects)

A bandstand that's pointed in the opposite direction, so that sound isn't directed towards the residential buildings to the east. I'm guessing they've had complaints.

St. James Park Revitalization (PMA Landscape Architects)

Are you referring to the walkway paths? I believe they are that way because that's how people have been walking through the park. Otherwise, people are just going to trample to death any grass on the corners while taking their "shortcut."

It would be nice if they had kept the sidewalk as wide there as it is now/was along Nordstroms/Sears/Eatons. Would make avoiding the Black History Month guys a bit easier.

Compare this picture (note how far the ground floor storefronts extend out relative to the stairs or elevator being built for the parking garage above) to this...

    Bloor-Yorkville Scene

Feel free to ignore the aesthetics and cult-like excitement over the brand but reports are that Apple can raise a mall's sales by 10%: http://www.cnbc.com/2015/03/11/apple-stores-boost-malls-sales-10.html For anyone with a stake in the area, that's something to get excited about.

There's almost no pedestrian engagement along Yonge street. They may have said that was their goal at the time but secretly what they wanted was to maximize square footage. It would have been nice to have restaurants with patios along that west side of Yonge but I guess CF would rather people...

It was that wide before. You just didn't want to be seen walking that close to a Sears.

Are you counting the crane? That seems to be a permanent part of the building now.

Downtown Grocery Store List (current + proposed)

The Gerrard Square Walmart isn't busy because it's smaller and doesn't have quite the selection that a normal Walmart has. I'm not complaining though.

Under the Tarion rules the builder would have to reimburse the purchase for living costs past the specified occupancy dates: http://www.tarion.com/Warranty-Protection/Understanding-Delayed-Closings-and-Occupancies/Pages/Delayed-Occupancy-Protection-for-Condominiums.aspx Or maybe the builder...

    Sears Canada (1952-2017)

What in-demand locations do they still have? Landlords will only buy back under-market leases if they are certain they have someone ready to move in.

    Uniqlo

I think those "regular fit" clothes do fit some people... maybe the majority of Americans actually if those obesity stats are accurate.

    Simons

Simons is hard to categorize. They have in-house fast-fashion lines targeted to those suburban teenagers, but also lines for young professionals. Then over in another corner (or floor, depending on the location) they have racks of high-end designer labels that you would normally find at Holt's...

    Sears Canada (1952-2017)

It's their best bet because we all know their retail operations cannot be salvaged. However, I doubt their online endeavours will be successful. Their usual demographic probably aren't too keen to shop online (especially for clothing) and if they try and revamp they are going up against Amazon...

    Sears Canada (1952-2017)

What a horrible article/headline from the Star. Earnings didn't get "helped" by the CC portfolio sale, it was the ONLY reason they were in the black. Anyhow, Sears Canada appears to be on track towards the goal that everyone knows they're on but they just won't admit to.

    Apple Store

    That doesn't sound very Apple-ly.
