High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

High speed rail would do something you can't measure on any existing modes of travel: induce demand. The ability to get from Kitchener to London in 25 minutes, or from Toronto to Kitchener in 45 minutes would result in a radical change in what is possible in terms of economic connections and...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

A very large portion of the P3 project agreement with GrandLinq has been released (some description here of what hasn't.)

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

Of CN's 13 miles between Georgetown and Bramalea, half is double-tracked and half is already triple-tracked. It only has four grade crossings. It's 28 minutes currently. Virtually all of the 33 miles between Kitchener and Georgetown are single track, with very few sidings. There are nearly 30...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

The biggest barrier to all-day service to Kitchener, as far as I understand, is double-tracking of the line. The portion still owned by CN is already double tracked. This purchase will make it a lot easier for Metrolinx to do the double-tracking and grade-separations that they want to get...

GO Transit: Construction Projects (Metrolinx, various)

This isn't strictly a GO Transit project, but there's work being done to add CTC / signals to the railway through Kitchener. Anyone have ideas on completion timelines and how that might affect service?

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Like, mind-blowingly bad? Because that's an atrocious ridership target.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Euro-spec trains are lighter (hence faster to accelerate) and cheaper, I believe. I don't think this Stadler train looks much better, but I'm pretty sure we would get better service using it.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

There is zero mention of trying to change Transport Canada regulations that prevent the use of lighter and cheaper European-spec trains, which is unfortunate.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Oh, come on. If a barista were sitting in the coffee shop they work in and loudly complaining about it, it would be unprofessional and quite possibly grounds for termination. This doesn't sound any different. It also isn't really worth much discussion.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Sure. It's quite clear from Ontario's announcements that all-day service to Kitchener is not an immediate goal, so you're right that they could shorter service earlier. They're still saying 2016 is when Kitchener will get two more peak-direction trains.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Because we all know there's a lot of all-day demand to Georgetown....

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Construction has actually been underway on some other big pieces too: underpass at Highway 7/8, burying the Fairway Road hydro corridor, and utility relocation mostly along King Street.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Work is finally underway on Centralized Traffic Control for the line, i.e. signals. So at least there's that.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

There's some good coverage in the Record of probably the most important part - station-area planning.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

From page 12: "City of Brampton Involvement: Brampton's components will include contributions to the infrastructure update, updated transit facilities and improvements to the connection and transfer to the city's transit and active transportation system."

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

I think the discussion in this thread is a bit odd. GTTA isn't saying they need to pay for the parking - they're saying they want to make up for lost parking revenue. Do you really think $18+/day doesn't cover the costs of their parking? What I think is much more likely is that they're making a...

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

In Washington, D.C., through-running is being planned to expand capacity at Union Station and improve service, and that's between two different commuter rail agencies! It is really odd to be considering building tunnels if you aren't even trying the most obvious thing to move trains out of the...

High Speed Rail: London - Kitchener-Waterloo - Pearson Airport - Toronto

The city of Kitchener recently had a report regarding Ahrens St - here's the download link.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

I think the aesthetics are just fine outside of yards.

    GO Transit Electrification | Metrolinx

Yeah, plentiful level crossings on the GO network make third-rail power pretty impractical, I think.
