Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

Because the Region of Waterloo has been thinking about land use and limiting sprawl for decades, to the extent that the Places to Grow legislation is drawn from planning work there. While the Regional Official Plan (after OMB battles against developers) will have a stick to enforce a countryside...

Side note: looks like there's folks pushing for this already.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Perhaps because of all the new Kitchener buses that connect with trains at Bramalea.

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

The media doesn't really understand, and certainly can't convey, the importance of the CN owned portion of the Kitchener Line to getting two-way service to Kitchener. (They similarly don't understand the importance of CP to the feasibility of GO trains to Cambridge.) The announcement is not the...

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

If it's what the province is doing, I don't see how that plays the public at all. It indicates a path forward, and CP can choose to be part of it or not, but they presumably have to decide soon if they want to have a seat at the table.

407 Rail Freight Bypass/The Missing Link

Now that the province has gone public about an agreement with CN, does that compel CP to come to the table? Maybe this isn't just publicity, but also a tactic to get CP to negotiate, lest it get left out and miss out on the benefits to them.

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

mdrejhon's last photo is of the Perimeter Institute for Theoretical Physics, which is along the ION corridor. If that's what you were asking.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

That's been in the works for a while and I do believe has had various announcements. September is not that soon, and the facilities to launch those extra "peak direction" trains aren't done yet. I don't see why right now would make sense for any kind of announcement on that service. We'll see...

Waterloo Region Transit Developments (ION LRT, new terminal, GRT buses)

For context, brand new condos in downtown Kitchener (City Centre, One Victoria) start around $250K for one-bedroom units, and near the University of Waterloo (Icon) condos start at $210K for a one-bedroom. This ain't the high end of the market here.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I have heard that there will be some news this spring about that missing section.

Aren't there? They don't seem to be connected by anything more than wishful thinking.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

It's a closer step because this starts providing the service pattern and allows ridership to help build a case for investing in the rail corridor. Nothing prevents a deal with CP? Not even money?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

In Cambridge, the issue of GO trains to Toronto figures very prominently. This appears to be a clear step towards that, so the political interest seems clear.

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

I'm under the impression that Toronto's is one of the largest inner-urban streetcar networks in the world, with a large number of streetcar intersections with connections. While the Bombardier situation is crazy, it's by no means obvious that Toronto needs to change to a different kind of...

Like Markster, I also don't see what this portion of the tracks might be a shortcut for.

What choice does Waterloo Region have at this point?

    Carsharing Grows

That wasn't as true outside of Toronto. They had cars in student areas near Waterloo, Laurier, Trent, McMaster, Mohawk, Windsor, Guelph, Brock, and elsewhere. Pretty sure they had more than Zipcar in those areas - some of which are now left without any carsharing option. There's gotta be some...

Student CarShare abruptly shut down all of their operations a couple of weeks ago.

Greenfield construction with few regulations is relatively easy, yeah.
