I have found the fares to Ottawa vary a lot during the year and during the week. Parliament being in session can make a difference as the flights will generally be busier then. You can also save a lot if you are willing to be flexible as to time.

Porter is adding a sixth daily flight to Boston: http://www.prnewswire.com/news-releases/porter-airlines-adds-6th-daily-toronto-boston-flight-128379573.html

Relocating the old terminal off of the island would free up that space for any future main terminal expansion. Given the growing traffic, an expansion might become necessary before too long. Or more parking spaces. You can never have too many of those.

Good point that the draw bridge could be delayed by boat traffic -- however, most of the time, there isn't actually great deal of boat traffic. While traffic might be a big issue on July afternoons, I don't see it being a big issue outside of the summer. EDIT: A tunnel also has the benefit of...

The benefit of a tunnel (or a bridge) is that you will no longer need to rush to make the ferry, reducing one more area of stress. As well, it should significantly cut down on the bunching up of people at the check-in areas and taxi queues.

Porter had a 64.6% load factor in June, its highest ever. They moved 203,000 passengers in June, up from 136,000 for the same month last year. The short list for new destinations includes Washington Dulles within 12 months (and later Reagan National once preclearance at YTZ comes through)...

Eglinton LRT- Skytrain Beams Vs. Median Right-of-Way

I would think that pollution per sq. mile (or sq. kilometre/hectare) would be more appropriate than per capita. CO2 would be an exception (since it supposedly has a global effect), but I don't consider CO2 to be a "pollutant" but something that is necessary for plants to live.

High-Speed Rail Is Good for Business

We better hurry up or we will fall behind the US. The US government is pushing for a high-speed rail line from Chicago to Iowa City that will reach speeds of up to 90-110 mph and average speeds of over 45mph. Once in place, it will be possible to travel from Iowa City to Chicago in only 5...

    Monorail for Toronto

I think this is actually very true. I think very few people can hear the word "monorail" without thinking "monorail... monorail...monorail!"

What Megaproject(s) Would you like to see built next? (wackiness encouraged

I like the Bering Strait tunnel idea, but I would pair that with road/rail projects to connect the Bering Strait tunnel with road/rail networks in both the US and Russia. Without that, a tunnel would not be particularly useful. Other potential projects: - extend the Allen Road south via...

Porter does one thing that is special for those traveling to/from Toronto -- it provides a low-stress "small airport" experience close to downtown. Airlines flying out of Pearson require that you go to Pearson to use them. Air Canada (Air Ontario) used to (prior to 2006) provide at least some...

I was referring to domestic travel in Canada as that is what I am familiar with. Return tickets used to be cheap if you stayed over a Saturday night. If you didn't want to stay over the weekend, then it was really expensive ($800 to Ottawa, $1400 to Saskatoon, $2000 to Vancouver). Seat...

It's a lot cheaper now, though. It used to regularly cost me $800 (return) to go to Ottawa on Air Canada, except when I managed to score a $750 seat sale.

Porter has just had its best May ever: https://www.flyporter.com/About/News-Release-Details?id=152&culture=en-CA They had a 59.5% load factor in May and managed to improve the load factor on their YTZ-YUL route by 5% even as Air Canada was introducing their new service.

Porter is considering expanding to other Newfoundland destinations: http://www.vocm.com/newsarticle.asp?mn=2&id=14559&latest=1 I wonder what other cities are on the short list? I've seen a lot of people pushing for expansion to Stephenville; Goose Bay? Deer Lake? Gander? Also, Robert...

Apparently, Porter has been very successful with their new Sault Ste. Marie route -- enough that they are adding a third daily flight starting June 27th (9:10am out of Toronto and 11am out of the Sault). http://www.saultstar.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3129053

The End Of The Road: Saying Goodbye To Freeways

Places that are walkable and bikeable seem like a nice idea in the summer, but not so much in the winter. I'd like to see more effort put into developing more covered/underground walking routes.

    Imagining cities without mobility

Only if they cannot move smoothly and quickly (which depends a lot on how much other traffic is on the street). A streetcar every 90 seconds can make a route attractive -- one of my major issues with surface transit is that sometimes you end up standing outside in the snow for 15-20 minutes...

16 more slots are now available at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport. United has decided that they will not use the slots previously allocated to Continental. I expect that they just didn't have enough Q400s to go around...
