Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

Clever idea. But how do you get from Fort York Blvd to Wellington? I hate to think of streetcars turning from Spadina to Clarence Square and back, given the city's experience with transit signals.

Yay JoeClark. But why must ttc font be confined to subway walls?

General cycling issues (Is Toronto bike friendly?)

Classic nfitz. He links to 2 incidents that happened 5-10 years ago without making that clear. And he makes no mention of the 200+ pedestrians and cyclists killed by cars in Toronto since the last time even one cyclist hit a pedestrian to any serious effect. Give it a rest, buddy. Or better...

Waterfront Transit Reset Phase 1 Study

There's no mention in that document of the 45 Bay Street development or the possibility of a station there. Weird! The new eastern and western lines could terminate there (or better a through-route) and the existing loop stay as is for the Queen's Quay west service.

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

Actually a separated bike lane on Lake Shore all the way to Mimico would be a good idea. The western portion of MGT is if anything scarier than Queen's Quay. I don't have a spandex allergy like some posters here but yeah wannabe serious cyclists should be on the roads.

    Toronto Queens Quay & Water's Edge Revitalization | ?m | ?s | Waterfront Toronto

I wasn't there until late afternoon on the weekend. But I found it to be quite busy and yet working quite well. It was extremely crowded with pedestrian cyclists and runners. But people were happy, friendly, and almost all of them courteous and careful. We peds even waited at the red lights for...

    Toronto Lower Simcoe Ramp | ?m | ?s | City of Toronto

Ugh, no bike lane? From where the existing off-road trail ends at Lower Simcoe to Yonge Street is like a shooting gallery on a bike. It's outrageous this project is going ahead with a provision for bicycles.

    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

We might not always agree with Royson James on transit or city politics, but he's a great writer and he does go to the heart of the matter in a way that no other city beat columnist does in this town. And I for one believe that the SSE could still be killed entirely if enough sensible people...

I can't believe that even Toronto would fail to set up transit priority at a dedicated U-turn signal! Looking at your map above, the indirect left turns look pretty well planned out to me. Left turn phases at suburban arterials drive me crazy in general - it's so inefficient! Much of the time...

That's right. But time will tell if this is an attempt to cut UPE costs, or simply bury those costs in a place where there is no separate reporting.

    Ontario Budget Week

Those tax credits were just for low income families. For 80% of Ontarians, it was just a tax increase with no credits. Plus, those credits are smaller now than they were in 2010, even for low income families. Classic bait-and-switch! We pay enough sales tax thanks. If you want more money for...

    Ontario Budget Week

RST was the old retail sales tax from before the HST. I found this paper that said moving to HST increased revenues paid by consumers in 2010 by $3.3 billion: http://www.policyschool.ucalgary.ca/?q=content/impact-sales-tax-reform-ontario-consumers-first-look-evidence The old sales tax was 8%...

    Ontario Budget Week

When Harper cut the GST, Ontario went from RST to HST, which had the effect of raising taxes on consumers almost as much as a two point bump in the rate. So good news, you got your wish already. Cap and trade and/or carbon taxes is the only sensible way for tax policies to go in the future. Of...

    Toronto Union Pearson Express | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | MMM Group Limited

That was exactly my point upthread about creating a Pearson-Etobicoke North shuttle. But yes I can't see why a new station is needed as opposed to a new UPX platform. An added advantage is that you could extend high platforms at in-city stations for RER type service, without worrying about...

TTC: Flexity Streetcars Testing & Delivery (Bombardier)

OK yes I am never there at peak hours. What you say just reinforces how shocking it is we still have no transit on Fort York and Bremner, not even a bus. Even the resurrected WWLRT proposal seems (based on the map) to give up on the Bremner route in favour of Queens' Quay. People in the...

I'm sorry, I meant Etobicoke North. Etobicoke is a somewhat theoretical concept for me, I admit.

Why extend the Link now that we have the spur? Once RER/ST is functional in the corridor, why not just run the existing UP trains between Malton and Pearson? Folks heading from downtown to Pearson and vice versa just walk across the platform at Malton, easy peasy.
