    Transit City Plan

Made a little illustration as to what I think could be paid for using the current TC funding. There's a $500 million unfunded portion dedicated to extending the Eglinton tunnel east to Wynford, but that could be delayed if additional funding can't be found. Source for some of the numbers...

    Transit City Plan

The underground portion is supposed to be automated, but is it planned to run without an operator? It seems kind of unlikely since they would be needed to drive on the 2 at grade ends of the line. Unless they hop on and off at the ends of the underground section. I thought it's just going to...

    Transit City Plan

Hmm, I wonder if the talks of upgrading the SRT to the new skytrain technology (or another high floor Intermediate Capacity Transit System), which I believe was the original plan, and making the Eglinton line the same technology is back on the table... 1) It would eliminate the need for a...

    Transit City Plan

I thought that tunnel was being built for easy conversion to subway, so I dont think the diameter (which is wider for LRT anyway) and location needs to necessarily change. Of course, there would be added costs for the station, but there would also be an elimination of the portal. I think the...

    Transit City Plan

In a CP24 interview, Ford said that he wants Sheppard built underground to STC and then for Eglinton to be built. From what he said, I'm guessing that the Sheppard LRT is dead and the Eglinton underground will be built, but Sheppard will probably come after Eglinton as the planning work has...

    Transit City Plan

Here's my guess as to what will happen: Eglinton'z underground portion will be built as a subway. Sheppard's money will be used for a subway extension east. Beyond 2015, money from Finch, SRT conversion, and the surface section of Eglinton will be diverted to extend the Bloor Danforth...

Despite what Ford says The Streetcar in Toronto is here to stay.

The "light rail" is more SRT than Transit City. They even have platform screen doors! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y5WOWN7vGCw&feature=player_embedded#!

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

Hm. Since they always talk about trying to cut loading times at Bloor-Yonge, I wonder if they ever looked at adding more doors per car by having punch out doors or doors that slide over the windows...

    Toronto TYSSE: York University Station | ?m | 1s | TTC | Foster + Partners

I always question whether it'd be better for the TTC to just use standard interior finishes in their stations since they seem to have trouble maintaining what they have, but here's to hoping they can keep these finishes looking nice decades from now.

    1233 Queen East | ?m | 8s

As you pointed out, the vehicle sizes are quite similar, which I don't think is what people are complaining about for Transit City. Rather, Transit City is not a "light rail... operating entirely in right-of-ways with protected crossings" since it is not grade separated or separated by gates...

    Transit City Plan

I'm REALLY interested to see what Rob Ford will do. I think Eglinton will probably be turned to a subway (with the line truncated at the tunnel sections). The BD extension will probably happen too since the SRT HAS to be replaced and Ford has a strong base there. But as for Sheppard and Finch...

    Destination Signage

Woops. Forgot to mention that using the TR trains, we should have the signs say Union, then trip to Downsview when it passes Union... or else we wouldn't be able to use the compass directions for this.

    Destination Signage

I always found that there is terrible inconsistency in the subway destination signage: - The subway trains display the ultimate destination (e.g. Finch) - On the Sheppard platform edge signs, you only get what the next station is (e.g. East to Bessarion) - Some other signs only show what...

Fantasy Map My addition to the fantasy map thread! Changed the names of some of the stations to remove duplicates and triplets. Also paired the GO train stations with the TTC ones.

    Rob Ford's Transit plan

Has Ford taken an official position on the Eglinton Line? That's why I left it out.

    Rob Ford's Transit plan

I drafted this subway map by comparing the 2 platforms (Smitherman and Ford). It gives us a better representation of what would be built by both candidates and which lines are candidate-specific.

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

station names TTC has recommended the station names: Sheppard West (Old Downsview Station) -> Downsview Park -> Finch West -> York University -> Steeles West -> Highway 407 -> Vaughn Centre Source...

Toronto Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits | ?m | 1s | TTC | IBI Group

What if we make the extension a part of the Sheppard line? Save some costs by keeping it at 4 car trains. Also prevents the yonge line from being too long.
