Toronto Architecture from the 1940's and 1950's

I am not sure if it was a 50's or a 60's design, but someone should check out Glen Ames senior public in the beaches. I know it was built in 61 but the design in my thought is more 50's. I especially remember the cafeteria and the exterior staircase that exits from it. It's not as clean and...

    Gay History in Toronto

Yes, many a beer with my dad on the patio! Then there was Colby's, Trax, and a few others I can't recall. I do remember one night out with my dad, his partner, my soon to be wife, myself and a few other friends. We attended a bi place with cage dancers! Now where was that?

    Rare Maps of Toronto

Fantastic work by you both! How about an even bigger, massive, project? A real challenge, index all the street level photographs by year and location and create sort of a streetview level for each year! It wouldn't be too much work, would it? :)

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

In the left pic you can just see the top of the churches chimeny tower, which is clearly visible after the fire. The spire is missing after the fire. The fire map posted explains that. It says " Knox Church, Damaged, spire burnt" Edit: Ha, was beaten to it! Although the street front does look...

Re Simpson's, that might explain the shooting gallery turned Elgin block. Why that structure was so short lived. It appears to have been burned out by the fire. That "last hold out" appears to be Kent Bros. (It is! the address matches and it is listed as damaged on the fire map)

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

Bringing the picture back and also trying to locate this wonderful pictures location. I seem to get a SE corner looking south orientation to it.

I believe they may be the same building, the publisher and the pub. You can see the spire of what is now a Lutheran church above the publisher and to the right.

In the early days of the automobile electric vehicles out numbered gasoline ones. If you notice the drive chain on the right rear wheel, it appears to connect to the electric drive motor. Not an uncommon setup back then.

I like that it's a facing east, north south orientation as well. The first photo runs way north!

    someMidTowner's Toronto Photos

Wonderful shots of the Necropolis. Between there and Saint James we have two of the most beautiful burial places on earth! My father and his partner are buried in St. James. Love to take long walks through the place.
