Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

It would also be next to impossible that a new bridge/road would be designed with the exact same span (length) and skew angle of the bridge itself. And then factor in calculating the dead & live loads of the structure itself to accommodate already built girders. Traffic is still coming from...

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

I suspect the longer window for the bridges over Kipling is because they will have to reconstruct Kipling after. Didn't have to worry about that with the bridge over the now obsolete Dundas ramp.

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

The cyclist lobby already complained and got the on street bike lanes upgraded to separated cycle tracks beyond the curb for the new Dundas and Bloor Streets - so there's some progress.

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

Yes it should be! Once they do this, they would also need to open up Bloor WB to two lanes at Resurrection Rd like shown in the picture, but as of now it is only one lane. Evening rush hour is going to be horrendous.

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

The current arrangement doesn't exactly match the image that was floated around. I am surprised Bloor WB to Dundas is only a single left turn lane. Also for some reason at this same intersection, Dundas NB and Dunbloor SB were on separate signal phases, adding even more delay to Bloor WB...

You do so much driving but don't have a dash cam?? Traffic is on the new alignment as of this morning. But with those super high winds later things may get interesting.

Roads: Six Points Interchange Reconfiguration (City of Toronto, UC)

Pedestrian crossings will be at signalized intersections with AODA provisions and the new roads will be fully illuminated. The curb radii will be on the lower side (compared to suburban major 6 lane arterials). There is a subway running under it, GO train route through it, and bus routes...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I would really like to know what was going through the heads of the designers of the 401 WB to Hurontario offramp intersection design. Turning left in the inside lane the curve is way too sharp and slows down traffic so much. Since the left turns will often back up several signal cycles, it...

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

Even in the context of tolling freeways? Highway 7 and Steeles appear to be the most congested arterial roads in the entire GTA. It won't be as painful once the 401/Tremaine Road interchange opens in a few years.

If a highway is never red/yellow then it has been over designed. A healthy level of congestion in the peak hours is a good sign that road supply/demand is balanced.

Still better than before when it was red from 401 to Williams Parkway. Plus if you carpool now the delay will be very small.

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

This year construction will start on replacing the entire deck between Jarvis & Cherry including a few of the ramps in this stretch. Similar to what was done several years ago around Strachan.

Obviously HOV traffic will be much improved as well.

That's funny because 410 is mostly cleared by 6:30 anyways. So I'm not really buying that your commute is 10 minutes longer outside of rush hour. And how much slower is your morning commute now that the highway has been widened?

Roads: Gardiner Expressway catch-all, incl. Hybrid Design (2015-onwards)

More realistic article here with some actual commenters. https://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-news/transportation/the-cars-just-disappeared-what-happened-to-the-90000-cars-a-day-the-viaduct-carried-before-it-closed/ A bit more balanced view than from one of those anti-car blog sites...

But keep in mind the goal is to reduce travel times. So even now if it's slow between Steeles/407 to Queen then it's still better than before when it was slow from Courtney Park to Queen. Everyone driving this route should be asking their representatives for MTO to accelerate the completion of...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

I'm almost certain they would make this offramp 3 lanes based on some sort of traffic analysis. The EA plan is typically refined prior to construction. Having the WB right turn at the intersection instead of a freeway loop entrance was probably done at the request (payment) of York Region...

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Drive along Major Mackenzie, Mcgillivray, Rutherford, Langstaff, and Zenway between Hwy 50 & Hwy 27 and you'll see a lot is going on. Some is even on Streeview!

You are wrong, widening to two lanes within proximity to intersections is proven to improve capacity for the straight through movements. Do people actually believe this?

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Even still, widening to two lanes (even if just within 500m of intersections) would do wonders for capacity. The interchange to nowhere! (for now)
