An interesting footnote about Lyon, the ceiling in the concourse is a backup plan. Originally it was supposed to have this interesting ceiling made out of reclaimed ash as was Rideau. However they apparently ruined the wood during the drying process, so they had to go to plan B.

I'm curious how it compares and contrasts to Ion, having never ridden the latter. Obviously very different systems, but considering they are of the same vintage I'm curious in differences in vehicle comfort and ride.

One train got a failure code. Total delay was 8 minutes, then things resumed again. Parliament station cleared quicky after trains started resuming, but amazing how fast the platform hits crush load on a snag. As for the sewer smell, I imagine that will take them a bit to find. I didn't notice...

So today wasn't quite hitch free, but nothing people in Toronto, Montreal or Vancouver haven't experienced before. While the parallel bus service for a few weeks sounded like a good idea, it means the outbound transfer doesn't work, since the frequent buses are still stuck winding their way out...

Having a "subway" though does definitely feel big cityish. It's something Ottawans always had to go to Toronto or Montreal or New York for before

It's pretty quiet and smooth except around Hurdman where it makes 3 fairly sharp curves. I'd say that part is worse than the squeally turn at Union. Hurdman seems to be the only place where only an LRV could make the turns, far too sharp for heavy rolling stock at any decent speed. Other than...

Actually that is the one shown in stations, buses and trains.

Full map is here https://www.octranspo.com/en/ready-for-rail/transforming-the-service/system-map-zoom/ PDF https://www.octranspo.com/images/files/ready4rail/full_map.pdf There is an official rapid transit map, but OC Transpo only has the old pre line 1 up still on the website.

A better schedule is here. It's 5 minutes throughout the day until 9:30 pm on weekdays, and rush hour frequency is actually 4 minutes though they don't say that here. https://www.octranspo.com/en/news/article/welcome-aboard/

If you were trying to scan your daypass on the presto reader, it wouldn't work, you have to use the optical reader

They were actually part of the original EA, but value engineered out. Also by choosing the Alstoms, it no longer works because the door positions are not identical backwards and forwards

They decided later that numbers were better for wayfinding. Thus our Line 2 just like yours is a number 2 in a green circle, Line 1 is in a red circle. The names Trillium and Confederation seem to never appear in wayfinding, but are still used by OC Transpo. I wouldn't be surprised if we used...

Got to take my very first ride. Ignoring low floor, it feels very similar to the Montreal metro. The trains feel very subway like, quite different than trains I've ridden in Boston or Seattle. I'm surprised at how dim the lighting is on the trains though.

In the meantime the TTC really should aquire some of the rolling stock Vancouver is retiring. They are slightly less ancient Mark I's which might buy a bit more time. I'm still wondering when they'll announce more details about this project though and what they are actually envisioning.

That's on the crosstown. I'm thinking on the Ontario Line, where it's going to cross the Don Valley is an issue. A break in the line there is going to be a long detour for a shuttle bus, there really is no parallel road route

    Toronto Ontario Line 3 | ?m | ?s

Snow is easy to deal with, there's just lots of other items that can cause a shutdown more often than a fully underground line. The question is how much thought they have put into shuttle service. The twisty-turny route means shuttle service will be extra dreadful due to the routing buses would...

The one question about being above ground is how many weather related shutdowns will happen, especially on an automated line.

We'd have way less to fill up the airtime on forums if that was the case :)
