    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

There were always options. For example, Durham Region already had a Regional Road 2, so they simply decided to rename Highway 2 to "Durham Highway 2".

    Roads: Ontario/GTA Highways Discussion

Agreed. I'm not particularly vested in WHO is maintaining specific pieces of road, but the smashing of the signed King's Highway system by the Harris government in the 90s was hugely damaging to the clarity of the system. Granted the rise of GPS has mitigated the damage somewhat, but there...

Roads: Highway 407 East (Durham Region)

Has there been any public word on whether the construction group expects to open phase 1 on time? Their web site has gotten very quiet.

And frankly, given the relative inaccessibility of the lights, they'd be foolish not to put in LEDs so that maintenance costs are reduced. Is incandescent even an option for heritage buildings? You or I are unable to buy them any more, by law - but are there exceptions?

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

Durham Region Transit had dial a bus service in Ajax and Pickering as late as (roughly) 2009 or so. They had inherited this late evening and Sunday service from APTA and ran it that way for a year or two before migrating to fixed routes.

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

I regularly have drivers on the 96 eastbound go west on the 401 from Yonge and turn around via Avenue, solely to get in the express lanes sooner. Thing is, if this is all centrally controlled do certain drivers seem to consistently do it while others don't? And why would the 92 trip operating...

And yet there are no detailed instructions in French - seriously, people are supposed to pull out their phones and go to GO site to get navigational directions? Nor is there an instruction to visit the web site for more detail in English. I don't think this is a major concern - most people...

There is a lot of room for variation what constitutes a successful design. For example, there is no one correct font. I suspect that there's room for further improvement if we're not limiting ourselves to reusing existing design elements. Having said that, I think you've absolutely nailed the...

Absolutely agreed; they're very well presented.

Just a thought - but has GO had full control over signage in Bay Concourse while they were just a tenant? Now they own the place (and York) of course but historically they didn't.

I did not, and I guess that answers my question. :-)

Seems to have been some last minute tagging going on based on that last batch of photos. I wonder if that's actually additional tagging occuring or staff not bothering to remove tags from a concourse soon to be demolished.

Excellent points. In addition, more fundamentally - the core navigational signage is overhead and directly in front of a walking commuter. This trains them NOT to look at the pillers, which of course is where the construction signage is located. Edit: and of course my 1000th post is a...

GO Transit: Service thread (including extensions)

The "inconvenience" is that express GO trains that previously bypassed Danforth Station during rush hour are now stopping there in order to accomodate riders riding these passes, adding several minutes to the commute.

    UT Forum New Design?

Please add some contrast to the site (use black text instead of gray). As it is, there is so little contrast that I find it quite uncomfortable to read text on this site, and I have to admit, I've been visiting a lot less since the design change specifically because of this issue. To be blunt...

    Forum Shutdown For Upgrades

I find the new font and colour choices to be so low contrast as to be difficult to read. I'm already reading the forum less because of these changes; it's just not a pleasant experience for me any more.

    Metrolinx: Presto Fare Card

For anyone interested, they will be selling special commemorative "Union Pearson Express" PRESTO cards tomorrow at UP stations. These are functional PRESTO cards just like any other; the only difference is in the artwork. I have no idea how many are available for sale, and they are limited...

    Trip Planner online

Can't disagree in general, though at least this has Durham Region Transit, who are, apparently, unable to release their transit data as a GTFS feed for some silly policy reason.

    Trip Planner online

Well, it's taken 5 years since the last post on this subject, but Triplinx is now live. This is clearly the Metrolinx project referred to in this thread, though I don't see a Metrolinx logo on it. Obviously it was gotten out the door for the Pan Am Games.
