2024 Mississauga Mayoral Byelection Transit Plans

Though David Miller's Transit City and RoDoFo's "subways, subways, subways" made their mark. Even Patrick Brown got an underground LRT through Brampton. If I lived in Mississauga, I'd happily vote for Alvin Tedjo. There's things I'd pick apart from his platform, yes, but he's the only one with...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Ugh. By mentioning Bill Davis all those times, he sounds as bad as Steve Paiken. Brampton, at least, only has two and a half things named for Davis (a school, a college campus, and a courthouse also named for the father – half the things named for the Queen of Sprawl in Mississauga), but don’t...

Bradford Bypass (MTO, Hwy 400 - Hwy 404)

It was a nickname given by both opponents and proponents as it would be the third Toronto bypass, and it fit the pattern of increments of 6: 401-407-413. The next one would be 419.

Because Cortellucci, De Gasparis, and Rehmatullah don’t have land in the area?

Toronto St Lawrence Market North | 25.3m | 5s | City of Toronto | Rogers Stirk Harbour

The number of construction lane closures between Queen and Carlton has made the reversible lane moot. North of Queen, one through lane in each direction, along with a centre turn lane would work much better. Perhaps Wellesley-Mount Pleasant should remain two through lanes in each direction just...

Abandoned or neglected buildings in Toronto

I know all about the Love Canal. The construction of the LaSalle Expressway (part of a never-completed outer ring road) and the Blizzard of ‘77 only made the catastrophe occur as bad as it did, when it did.

Abandoned or neglected buildings in Toronto

FWS? Buffalo was never dependent on a single industry like Detroit, but it had the huge Lackawanna steel mill just south of the city limits (steel companies liked to set up their own towns), the elevators (largely made redundant by the completion of St. Lawrence Seaway), Larkin Soap...

    GTHA Transit Fare Integration

I like collecting transit smart cards when I travel (my collection includes the only smart card usable on two continents: IETT’s Istanbulkart), and was disappointed that most cities I visited in Central Europe didn’t have them. Vienna had an excellent app though.

    LCBO / The Beer Store

I would certainly agree for wines and spirits. Beer, cider, cooler, and seltzer cans can be kept self-serve as they are much less costly and are mix-and-match, unlike the bottles of wines and liquors. Encourage customers to pre-order with a (better) app as well.

I am well aware. But they aren’t used as highway shields, but as supplemental signage.

    Canadian Highway Fantasy Thread

I wrote at length about the TCH numbering system (or lack of) elsewhere. The TCH was a 1950s project to complete a high-quality paved route across all ten provinces, with federal funding allocated to completing these links. In Ontario, Quebec, and the Maritime Provinces, there was already a...

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

It’s also the first route outside the City of Toronto and it parallels historical Highway 10 (as much as it drives @Transportfan bananas). It’s fine! And it’s a lot easier to say and type than Doug’s crony. (If Hamilton’s LRT gets numbered, it should be Line 11, for CHCH.)

    Mississauga Mississauga Transitway | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx | IBI Group

There are a few places where better highway-to-station accesses would go a long way. Having only a partial interchange at Bramalea Road causes pain for lot of bus passengers at what should be a prime intermodal hub. The 407 charges a fortune to GO for using the highway though, so I wonder if...

    Canadian Highway Fantasy Thread

Yeah, I'd want to divert as much traffic from Barrie as possible, meaning that a Highway 26 diversion should join the 400 somewhere between Innisfil Beach Road and Mapleview.

    Brampton Transit/Zum

Because Gore Road doesn’t go towards Bolton. Highway 50 does. The 50 Gore Road bus has very good ridership where the 41 runs very infrequently. That should change once BT gets more buses and operators, but the geography and service patterns don’t match.

    Mississauga Hurontario-Main Line 10 LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

If they left it at that, sure. But not also the library, the UTM library, the college campus, the walkway between city hall and Square One, the school, the transit line, the since-repealed legislation… Even Mel Lastman just got one thing named for him.

    Roads: GTA West Corridor—Highway 413

How can we trust this government to start constructing Highway 413 next year when it can't even get Highway 7 New going between Kitchener and Guelph? Oh, wait, none of Ford's York Region "friends" have land assemblies along the Highway 7 corridor.
